Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Summary: 

  • The Controller will oversee the accounting functions for a growing production homebuilding company based in Denver, CO with additional offices in Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix. The company is scaling for growth over the next several years, making this a dynamic and fast-paced role. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Accounting and Finance, the Controller will be a key leader in managing accounting operations and supporting the company’s strategic growth.
  • This position is responsible for all areas relating to accounting records, maintenance, and reporting. This position will develop and maintain accounting principles, practices, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. The Controller supervises the accounting staff and manages the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed promptly. This position addresses tight deadlines and many accounting activities, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities.

Duties / Responsibilities: 

  • Strong leadership skills – managing and working with peers both within and outside of the organization.
  • Review and ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, provide meaningful insights on financial performance/variance results and keep executive management informed of Company’s financial status.
  • Manage financial reporting for external and internal audit requirements.  
  • Work with Clayton accounting to answer questions timely and assist as needed 
  • Maintain Trade Partner/Vendor compliance  
  • Direct the day-to-day actions of the entire accounting department including but not limited to

overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Team Members.

  • Self-starter, reliable, committed to meeting established deadlines.; Strong communication skills - both oral and written. The ability to work on multiple projects at one time and the ability to prioritize based on value to the organization. Audit experience – both internal and external. Team builder with a focus on accountability and empowerment.
  • Oversee cash flow planning/reporting
  • Establish, implement and maintain policies and procedures to safeguard the Company’s assets.
  • Oversee all financial accounting disciplines.
  • Support the Company’s risk management function, including property, casualty, builders’ risk and health insurance renewals.
  • Oversight of Accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and functions, including internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable functions, including approving weekly cash outflows, and streamlining processes/procedures.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Seven to 10 years’ experience in progressive accounting roles
  • Five to seven years in a leadership role, preferably in accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant with public accounting experience in auditing
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Ability to work with multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Expected Salary: $120,000-$145,000 Annual Salary - This position is eligible for additional performance incentives in the form of quarterly bonus opportunity.
