Job Description
At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta's Indirect Procurement team is seeking an Indirect Procurement Business Partner in Madrid, Spain.
What you'll be doing
You will be the single point of contact for indirect procurement across Spain and Portugal - covering two business units (Crop Protection and Seeds), our production and R&D sites, and a corporate offices. This is a role where strategy and execution sit in the same chair.
On any given week, you might be negotiating a health insurance renewal with the HR Director, running a sourcing event for a new R&D facility, reviewing the Ariba savings pipeline with your manager, or helping a plant director navigate a capex project. The categories are broad - professional services, marketing, HR services, facilities, IT, travel, and capex - and the stakeholders are senior. No two weeks look the same.
More specifically, you will:
- Translate regional and global category strategies into local execution for Spain and Portugal, ensuring savings commitments are met without compromising quality or timelines.
- Serve as the primary procurement partner for country and site leadership teams - building relationships, educating stakeholders on procurement processes, and staying close to local business priorities.
- Design and run tailored sourcing solutions when business needs fall outside existing frameworks: from supplier selection and RFx processes to contract negotiation and ongoing supplier management.
- Own and maintain the Ariba savings pipeline accurately, driving delivery against agreed targets and ensuring full compliance with procurement policies.
- Represent and promote the value of the Indirect Procurement function within the country - making the case for early involvement in business decisions and demonstrating tangible impact.
Qualifications
What we're looking for:
- Around 8 to 15 years of experience in procurement, with a strong track record in indirect categories: services, facilities, marketing, HR, IT, or professional services.
- Experience operating in a business partner or country-facing procurement role - someone who is as comfortable in a conversation with senior stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of category management methodology: spend analysis, supplier segmentation, strategy development, and savings tracking.
- Hands-on experience with eSourcing tools and structured sourcing processes; familiarity with SAP Ariba is a plus.
- Strong stakeholder management skills - able to influence without authority, manage competing priorities, and build credibility across functions and seniority levels.
- Comfortable working as an individual contributor with high autonomy: you own the full procurement cycle for two countries, from strategy to purchase order.
- Fluent Spanish (native or near-native) and professional English are both required. Portuguese is welcome but not essential.
A few things worth knowing
- This is an individual contributor role - there is no team reporting to you. What you do have is direct access to senior stakeholders, a well-established procurement function, and the full backing of a regional and European category network.
- The function is mature. Stakeholders know the process, SAP Ariba is live, and savings pipelines are tracked. You are not here to build from scratch - you are here to raise the bar.
Additional Information
- Travel up +/- 10% within the territory will be required.
- Full time role based in Madrid, Spain.
WHAT WE CAN OFFER
- A culture that promotes work/life balance, celebrates diversity and offers numerous events throughout the year.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- #FutureOfWorkPolicy: 3 days at home, 2 at the office.
- Competitive salary and benefits package.
- A role that contributes to valuable and impactful work in a stimulating and international environment.
- Learning culture and a wide range of development options, including access to learning platforms (Degreed and LinkedIn Learning)
