POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mohs Histotech in Winston-Salem, NC is a critical member of the surgical team, responsible for preparing and processing tissue specimens with precision and efficiency for Mohs micrographic surgery. This role supports surgeons by ensuring accurate and timely slide preparations to facilitate optimal patient outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and section frozen tissue specimens using Mohs surgical techniques.
  • Process, embed, and stain tissue samples for histological evaluation.
  • Ensure quality control of prepared slides, maintaining compliance with laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Accurately document all histology procedures and maintain appropriate records.
  • Operate and maintain histology laboratory equipment, including cryostats.
  • Maintain a sterile and safe laboratory environment in adherence with OSHA and CLIA regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, clinical staff, and patients to promote positive outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with new practices.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support laboratory and clinical operations.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or related field required.
  • Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred.
  • Experience in Mohs histotechnology is highly desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.
