Night Shift Working Lead (Welding / Fabrication)
Reports To:
Production Supervisor / Production Manager
Job Summary:
The Night Shift Working Lead is a hands-on production leader responsible for leading and supporting night shift manufacturing employees while actively performing production work. This role sets daily priorities, ensures safe and efficient operations, and serves as the first point of contact for workflow, quality, and safety concerns. The ideal candidate will have welding experience; however, candidates with machine shop or first-entry manufacturing experience may also be considered.
Job Duties:
- Lead and work alongside production employees in the fabrication and welding of burners, flares, incinerators, and related components during night shift operations.
- Serve as the primary on-floor lead, providing direction, job assignments, and real-time problem solving to meet production schedules.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with quality standards, drawings, and welding procedures.
- Promote and maintain HSE compliance, including proper use of PPE and adherence to safety policies.
- Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and communicate issues or needs to supervision.
- Support training and onboarding of new employees; mentor less experienced team members.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of equipment, tools, and processes.
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts, including lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
- Provide input on employee performance and escalate attendance, performance, or conduct issues as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3+ years of manufacturing experience required; welding experience strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a lead, acting lead, or informal supervisory role preferred.
- Experience in welding, fabrication, machine shop operations, or first-entry manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and welding symbols.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to lead by example.
- Basic computer skills for production tracking and reporting.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles preferred.
- Experience with Solomon or similar ERP systems is a plus.
