Thorlabs Measurement Systems manufactures and assembles precision, multiprobe video measurement systems, their subassemblies, and associated metrology products. This position is responsible for inventory management, shipping and receiving operations, and the physical organization and movement of warehouse materials. The role also includes regular transportation of products between local Thorlabs sites. While this position is based in Sparta, NJ, up to 20% travel may be required to other Thorlabs sites.
Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:
- Maintains accurate inventory records within the company's ERP system.
- Performs regular cycle counts and periodic physical inventories; investigates and resolves inventory discrepancies.
- Receives incoming deliveries, verifies quantities and conditions, and properly labels, documents, and stores inventory.
- Prepares outbound shipments, including picking, packing, staging, and generates required shipping documentation.
- Physically moves inventory within and between internal manufacturing facilities to support production and assembly needs.
- Coordinates and executes deliveries and pickups using a company vehicle between local facilities and suppliers as needed.
- Establishes and maintains organized warehouse locations to optimize space utilization, material flow, and traceability.
- Supports production teams by acting as a material “runner,” ensuring timely delivery of components to work areas.
- Monitors inventory levels and communicate shortages, overages, or potential issues to operations and purchasing teams.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures related to inventory control, material handling, and safety.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse environment at all times.
- Assists with continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, warehouse efficiency, and material flow.
Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times. The employee may lift or move objects up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, it may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.
Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of previous experience working in warehousing or distribution inventory experience is a plus. Must have previous experience coordinating freight shipments.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, must have a clean driving record that is insurable.
Education:
- Associate’s degree in business or related field preferred or equivalent of 2+ years of experience working in the Logistic industry with a High School Diploma or equivalent
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar ERP software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to interpret follow, edit, and provide feedback on written work instructions.
- Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
- Strong written, verbal communication skills, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and comply with high quality standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills to work through various tasks and situations
- Ability to function autonomously with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Hourly pay range is $25.75 - $32.00 depending on experience
