We are seeking a Body System (BIW & Closures) Expert (m/f/d) to strengthen our Costing & Insights team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality costing analyses and technical insights related to vehicle body systems, including Body-in-White, closures, and exterior components.
You will play a key role in leading complex body system cost analyses, supporting automotive OEMs and suppliers in understanding cost drivers, optimizing design-to-cost strategies, and improving product competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Advanced Body System Costing & Technical Analysis
- Lead complex body system cost studies and benchmarking analyses
- Perform system-level cost analysis covering Body-in-White structures, closures, and exterior components
- Apply design-to-cost methodologies and cost benchmarking techniques
- Analyze product design, materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain logic
- Identify key cost drivers such as materials, tooling investment, manufacturing processes, energy consumption, and logistics
- Translate analytical findings into clear technical and economic recommendations
Technical Leadership & Knowledge Sharing
- Provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers
- Contribute to the development of costing standards, methodologies, and best practices
- Act as a subject matter expert for body system cost drivers and manufacturing processes
- Support cross-regional knowledge transfer and collaboration
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a key technical interface during project delivery
- Lead technical deep-dive discussions with engineering and management stakeholders
- Translate complex technical findings into clear business insights
- Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, plant, and logistics teams to support negotiations and design-to-cost initiatives
- Proactively manage risks, scope alignment, and customer expectations
Continuous Improvement & Methodology Development
- Contribute to the evolution of internal cost models, templates, and databases
- Improve analytical methodologies and delivery approaches for costing and design-to-cost projects
- Develop guidelines and training materials for the costing team
- Promote structured documentation and knowledge sharing across teams

Requirements
Professional Background
- 10+ years of experience in body system engineering, automotive cost engineering, or automotive purchasing engineering
- Experience working with automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers preferred
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Mechatronics
- Strong knowledge of body manufacturing processes such as stamping, forging, welding, casting, extrusion, painting, and assembly
Skills & Abilities
- Advanced expertise in costing and design-to-cost methodologies
- Strong understanding of vehicle systems, manufacturing processes, and tooling concepts
- Ability to analyze complex engineering systems and cost trade-offs
- Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with internal costing tools is a plus
- Advanced analytical thinking, structured problem-solving, and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills in international and cross-functional environments
- Strong stakeholder management and presentation skills
- Fluent English (written and spoken); French or German is a plus
- Willingness to travel internationally
