Description
Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Governmental Affairs Director will drive the Company’s government relations/and public policy initiatives by providing analysis, strategic counsel, and cross-functional coordination. This role requires a seasoned, “streetwise” professional with highly developed networks, significant experience of navigating multi-state regulatory frameworks and the ability to translate complex statutory and regulatory requirements into actionable, practical business guidance.
She/he will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating legislative and regulatory developments and offer clear, business-focused recommendations, while not serving as the primary policy decision-maker.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor, track, and analyze proposed and enacted legislation, regulations, and agency guidance at the federal, state, and local levels, with particular emphasis on multi-state regulatory activity impacting Company operations.
• Translate complex statutory and regulatory requirements into practical, concise, and actionable business guidance for internal stakeholders.
• Coordinate with outside lobbying professionals on key initiatives important to the Company, affiliates, stakeholders, and related industries across multiple jurisdictions.
• Prepare summaries, memoranda, and analyses addressing operational and strategic impacts of government affairs, public policy, and regulatory developments.
• Advise Legal, Compliance, Communications, and business teams on legislative and regulatory matters and assist in operationalizing applicable requirements across states.
• Support the Chief Legal Officer in developing and executing government affairs strategies in alignment with Company objectives.
• Assist with drafting position statements, comment letters, and internal guidance related to proposed legislation and regulations.
• Stay current on emerging policy trends and proactively identify risks and opportunities affecting the Company’s business interests across states and regions.
• Attend legislative sessions, regulatory hearings, stakeholder meetings, and industry forums, and prepare timely updates.
• Support trade association and industry engagement efforts, including coordination with external counsel.
• Conduct research to identify emerging public policy risks and opportunities, particularly in multi-state regulatory environments.
• Prepare internal briefings and presentations for senior management on priority legislative and regulatory matters.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure coordinated, timely, and compliant government affairs initiatives.
• Maintain professional working relationships with government agencies, regulators, and industry organizations under senior leadership guidance.
• Perform other government affairs duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements

Proficiency with legislative tracking platforms, regulatory research tools, and standard business technology.
Education and Experience
BA from an accredited school.
Ten (10) or more years of experience in government affairs, regulatory, compliance, corporate, or administrative matters, including a proven track record of driving a company’s legislative policy and the accompanying compliance requirements.
Significant exposure to multi-state regulatory processes. Familiarity with federal regulatory processes preferred, but not essential.
Deep experience gained in highly regulated industries, with a strong preference for the healthcare/pharmaceutical sectors.
