Internship – Telecommunications Design & Drafting
Role Overview
The Internship role provides hands-on exposure to telecommunications design, drafting, and engineering workflows. Interns work under close supervision to support project tasks, data organization, and drafting activities while learning core Outside Plant (OSP) principles. This role is designed to build both technical and professional confidence through real-world project experience.
Approximately 100% of time is billable or project-assigned, with a strong focus on skill development, accuracy, and understanding the full project lifecycle from design through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Learning & Skill Development
- Participate in structured training and mentorship sessions
- Build working knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, and design documentation
- Learn to interpret engineering drawings, standards, and markups
- Demonstrate curiosity, steady progress, and a willingness to learn
Design & Drafting Support
- Assist designers and engineers with basic drawing updates and redlines
- Support document preparation, labeling, and formatting
- Organize and manage project files under guidance of a project lead
- Contribute to internal data cleanup and project coordination tasks
Quality Control Assistance
- Perform basic data and drawing checks under supervision
- Learn and follow company QA/QC processes and documentation standards
- Support revision tracking and error-correction efforts
- Maintain attention to detail and accuracy in all assigned work
Collaboration & Professional Engagement
- Work collaboratively with designers, engineers, and field staff
- Participate in team meetings and follow task instructions carefully
- Ask questions and seek feedback to continuously improve work quality
- Communicate professionally and reliably with team members
Performance Metrics
- Complete 100% of assigned deliverables on time
- Demonstrate measurable skill progression throughout the internship
- Maintain 95%+ accuracy in drafting and documentation tasks
- Participate in all scheduled mentorship and feedback sessions
- Receive positive evaluations from supervising engineers or designers
Role Requirements
- Enrollment (Junior or Senior level) in or recent completion of an engineering, telecommunications, or drafting program
- Basic familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or similar design tools preferred
- Strong interest in telecom design, broadband infrastructure, or utility engineering
- Detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Onsite at either Green Bay, WI office or Madison, WI office
- Internship is 12 weeks, from May 18, 2026 through August 7, 2026, flexible with school schedules
Advancement Opportunity
This entry-level internship is designed to provide exposure to OSP design fundamentals, industry software tools, and collaborative project work. Strong performance may lead to advancement into a Drafter or OSP Designer I role upon completion of the internship or related education.
