GRF CPAS & Advisors has been part of the Washington, DC metropolitan region since 1981. The firm provides outsourced accounting, auditing, risk advisory and consulting, and tax services to an extensive client base, which consists of nonprofit organizations, government contractors, professional service firms and others.

GRF CPAs & Advisors is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Internal Accounting team. This role is responsible for supporting the firm’s internal accounting operations, including the monthly close process, financial reporting, and ongoing accounting initiatives. The Senior Accountant will work closely with Accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and continuous process improvement.

This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage competing priorities, leverage cloud-based accounting systems, mentor staff, and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing accounting team.

Salary Range: $79,000 - $105,000

Location: Bethesda, MD

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform key aspects of the monthly and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and variance analysis, ensuring close deadlines are met.
  2. Prepare internal financial statements and management reports on both a cash basis and accrual basis, in accordance with established accounting policies.
  3. Prepare and support firm payroll, including review of timesheets, commissions/bonuses, accruals, and payroll-related journal entries.
  4. Support accurate multi-state payroll processing and related compliance requirements, including reconciliation of payroll taxes, benefits, and deductions, in coordination with Accounting leadership and payroll providers.
  5. Maintain and follow documented accounting policies, procedures, and standard operating processes, and identify and recommend updates as needed.
  6. Utilize and support cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Online) and related applications such as Bill.com.
  7. Collaborate with Accounting leadership and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate accounting for payroll, expenses, revenue recognition, and related processes.
  8. Prepare routine ad hoc financial analyses and reporting to support ongoing management and operational needs.
  9. Gather, organize, and analyze financial and operational data for surveys, reporting, and compliance requests, leveraging advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) to prepare accurate and well‑supported deliverables.
  10. Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and automation; assist with implementation.
  11. Provide guidance, training, and technical support to staff accountants.
  12. Support compliance-adjacent activities, including preparation of supporting schedules for required filings.
  13. Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive firm financial and employee information.
  14. Assist Accounting leadership with special projects and system initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or private industry.
  • CPA license preferred, or active progress toward CPA certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting processes.
  • Proficiency in Sage Intacct and/or QuickBooks, with experience using cloud-based accounting and expense management applications such as Bill.com.
  • Strong Excel skills, including experience using spreadsheets to gather, organize, and analyze data for reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal stakeholders at various levels.
