Requirements of the Medical Assistant:
- High school diploma or GED and must meet one of the following requirements: graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting
- 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant required
- Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification preferred
- Basic Life Support certification: Within first 90 days after hiring
- NSHC Health Coaching Certificate within 6 months of hiring
- Must possess strong digital literacy skills, demonstrate proficiency with telehealth platforms, and maintain a high standard of patient care and communication in a virtual setting
- Ability to effectively collaborate and partner with clinical and administrative team
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, while embodying Trellis’ values of empathy, compassion, competence, and exceptional quality
- Ability to work onsite in Portland, Maine Monday-Friday 8:30-5

Responsibilities of the Medical Assistant:
- Greets and rooms patients; measures and monitors vital signs
- Observes, documents, and reports patient's condition, medical history, etc. to provider
- Administers medication, immunizations, injections, and removes sutures and changes dressings per protocol or as directed by provider
- Performs specimen collection and transport as directed by the provider
- Prepares prescription renewals within the EMR and may approve prescription refills
- Enters labs, x-rays, and other diagnostics per protocol or as directed by the provider
- Assists with patient education, under the direction and guidance of the provider
- Prepares, cleans, and disinfects exam and treatment rooms, equipment
- Provides health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices. Follows up with coached patients via weekly calls
- Assists other personnel with patient appointment scheduling
- Actively participates in care team huddles, collaborating with the care team to ensure efficient coordination of daily clinic schedules
