Description

At Bristol Water we’ve been making people healthier and the economy stronger since 1846. We’ve served generations of families and will serve generations to come.
We’re here to have a positive impact on people and the planet for generations. We don’t just give people water - we keep them healthy and help them grow. We work around the clock, testing our water hundreds of times every day.
We take this same view with our 600 employees, we don’t just give them jobs in water, we keep them healthy and help them grow.

We’re one of the smallest water companies in the UK. Being small means we’re nimble and can achieve things quickly for our customers and our people.
But while we’re small, we’re also part of a larger family. In June 2021 we became part of the Pennon group, which also owns South West Water and Bournemouth Water.
This means that as part of our team, you’ll get the best of both worlds – the dynamism and fast pace of a smaller company, along with the security and breadth of opportunity that comes with being part of a large organisation.

Bristol Water is seeking a motivated and detail-focused Quality Control Analyst to join our Scientific Services team. This role plays a key part in ensuring the quality, integrity, and compliance of our laboratory operations, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water.

This role would suit a detail-focused and well-organised individual with strong communication skills and a commitment to accuracy and regulatory compliance. You’ll be confident following defined procedures, able to challenge non-conforming work professionally, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. You’ll take pride in delivering high-quality, compliant work, enjoy problem-solving, and be flexible in responding to changing operational demands.

All work is carried out in accordance with Water Quality Regulations, ISO/IEC 17025, Drinking Water Testing Specification (DWTS), and Bristol Water’s internal procedures.

What you'll be doing

  • Calibrating and maintaining analytical laboratory equipment in line with agreed schedules and standards
  • Preparing standard, control, spike, and proficiency testing solutions
  • Maintaining the Scientific Services document control system and ensuring documentation remains current and compliant
  • Recording, investigating, and reporting non-conforming work, including supporting corrective actions
  • Reviewing analytical data, Shewhart control charts, and validation results to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Supporting the validation and performance monitoring of analytical equipment
  • Conducting internal audits and following up on audit findings
  • Assisting with sample handling and providing general laboratory support when required

  • What we're looking for

  • Essential
  • Laboratory experience including equipment calibration and GLP (good Laboratory Practices) standards
  • Experience of quality assurance processes
  • Auditing and investigative skills
  • Strong IT skills, including spreadsheets, databases, and data handling
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • A Level (or equivalent) in a Science or Maths subject (grade C or above)
  • Full UK driving licence

  • Desirable
  • Degree in Environmental Science or a related scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of Water Supply (Quality) Regulations, ISO/IEC 17025, and DWTS
  • Experience using LIMS
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g. Royal Society of Biology or Chemistry)
