We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineering Manager to join our Data Platform and Engineering team. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong foundation in data operations and a proven ability to drive operational excellence in technical environments. The successful candidate will play a key role in operationalizing support workflows, incident response protocols, and data observability practices across our data platforms.
This position is open to both HQ-based and remote candidates.
How You Will Contribute
- Manage a small team of data engineers focused on operational support, reliability, and platform engineering.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.
- Be hands-on in writing production-grade code to support data product development, collaborating directly with data engineers and architects.
- Design and implement scalable support processes for data pipelines and platforms.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration.
- Own and evolve incident response playbooks, ensuring rapid and effective resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define service levels and reduce downtime.
- Lead efforts to enhance data observability using tools like Monte Carlo, Bigeye, or similar.
- Define and track key metrics for data health, latency, and reliability.
- Drive adoption of proactive monitoring and alerting systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive support tasks and incident triage.
- Partner with platform and analytics teams to streamline data delivery and quality assurance.
- Contribute to documentation and knowledge base development.
- Act as a point of contact for operational escalations and support inquiries.
- Communicate effectively with business and technical stakeholders regarding incidents and resolutions.
- Support onboarding and enablement of new data users and engineers.
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with exposure to DevOps and/or DataOps, operational support, and incident management.
- 1+ years of experience in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of data pipeline architecture, ETL/ELT processes, and cloud data tools (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Fivetran, dbt, AWS/GCP).
- Familiarity with observability tools and practices (e.g., logging, tracing, metrics).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a bias toward action.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
