GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the President & CEO, the Vice President (VP) of Mission Services provides executive leadership, strategic oversight, and accountability for all programs that help individuals achieve self-sufficiency through training and employment. The VP is responsible for developing and managing the Mission Services Department budget, setting long-term goals, and ensuring that all programs operate efficiently, meet performance expectations, and comply with funding and regulatory requirements.
This position focuses on strategy, results, and fiscal management. The VP serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and works with the C-Suite and Marketing Director to strengthen workforce and community impact across the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides executive leadership and direction for all programs and services within the Mission Services Department to ensure alignment with organizational strategy and community needs.
- Develops and executes long-term strategies that expand mission impact, improve workforce outcomes, and ensure program sustainability.
- Establishes department-wide goals, key performance indicators, and reporting systems that measure success and community outcomes.
- Collaborates with the CEO, CFO, COO, and CRO to integrate mission outcomes with retail operations, workforce training, and community engagement, ensuring a unified “One Goodwill” approach.
- Collaborates with the CFO and CEO to develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring fiscal accountability and effective use of resources.
- Partners with the Marketing Director to promote workforce and mission initiatives, share impact stories, and enhance visibility within the community.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with employers, government agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations to expand employment and training opportunities.
- Ensures that all mission programs maintain compliance with funding, regulatory, and accreditation requirements, including CARF.
- Evaluates program performance and makes executive recommendations regarding growth, modification, or closure of initiatives.
- Serves as the senior representative of Mission Services at Board meetings, community events, and leadership discussions as assigned by the CEO.
- Collaborates with other executives to align mission outcomes with retail operations, human resources, and organizational culture initiatives.
- Mentors and develops departmental leadership to ensure effective management, accountability, and professional growth.
- Oversees preparation of departmental reports, performance dashboards, and impact summaries for CEO and Board review.
- Promotes a culture of accountability and excellence consistent with Goodwill’s mission and values.
- Performs other executive duties as assigned by the President & CEO.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Human Services, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in workforce development, nonprofit management, or human services, including at least 3 years in a senior or executive management role.
- Ability to travel as needed to support departmental and organizational needs; occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
- Experience working with diverse populations and community groups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience supervising, training, and supporting staff in a team environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business software.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with staff, coworkers, and external partners in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability to prepare and deliver internal and community presentations related to Mission Services.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure, use good judgment, and adapt to changing situations.
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of staff, including setting goals, monitoring results, providing feedback, and addressing performance issues as needed.
- Demonstrated time management skills and attention to detail.
- Must have access to reliable transportation that allows consistent attendance and performance of job duties.
- Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must pass a drug screening and remain compliant with the organization’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Must pass a background screening and comply with the organization’s related policies.
- Must not have a record of criminal conviction that indicates a pattern of theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.

POSITION INFORMATION:
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance; 403(b) retirement plan; Flex-Time Off. This position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc.
