Description
Summary of Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall operation of the pharmacy department. Perform the interpretation and verification of physician’s or authorized prescriber’s orders and patient medication profile review. The position requires extensive contact with the administration, medical staff, nursing service staff and non-clinical personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews prescriptions issued by Physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and appropriateness of drug therapy.
- Supervises pharmacy support personnel engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
- Dispenses medication and provides patient consultations on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
- Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
- Responsible for the procurement, storage, inventory, and dispensation of medications
- Maintain pharmacy files and inventory of pharmaceutical supplies and medications
- Maintains an adequate medication supply.
- In conjunction with the nursing staff, maintains an adequate supply of biologicals, vaccines and serums.
- Maintains the Point of Sale (POS system, facilitates establishment of POS contracts with third party payers, and reviews POS activities to insure maximum allowable payment.
- Assures that the Pharmacy department is in compliance with all applicable tribal, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.
- Coordinates the pharmacy function with facility staff, is available to clinic personnel to answer questions concerning medications and pharmacy.
- Chairs Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee.
- Participates in-service training.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervises all ancillary pharmacy personnel on a daily basis
Education and Experience:
- Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy is required
- Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy License
- One year of previous rural clinical pharmacy experience and/or at least one year of experience in a clinical setting with management and supervisory responsibility preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
- Current Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy License
- CPR and First Aid Certification
- Active Driver’s License
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities:
- Skilled at assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, coordinating, and managing patients in a clinical setting.
- Strong drug product and clinical pharmacy knowledge.
- Knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in regard to confidentiality and the release of medical information.
- Previous supervision of pharmacy support personnel
- Ability to work with others on an individual basis utilizing high interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to read, understand, apply and retain knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
- Outstanding organizational abilities and must be able to prioritize.
- Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Plan, organize, and implement clinical guidelines, formulary development and pharmacist based disease state management promotion/disease prevention programs.
- Emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses.
- Working knowledge of Electronic Health Records system utilization.

- Must pass background investigations for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
- Negative Annual TB testing results.
- Hepatitis A&B, Tdap, MMR and Varicella vaccinations, proof of previous vaccinations or proof of positive titer.
