AIRPORTS
The Placerville and Georgetown airports are owned and operated by the County of El Dorado and are located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Nearby attractions include Coloma, the original John Marshall gold discovery site that started the gold rush in California, and some of the best white water rafting in the country. Apple Hill is home to numerous orchards and wineries. Both airports play a vital role in the community as emergency facilities during wildland fires, life flight transfers, and search and rescue operations.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Under general direction of assigned management, oversees the day-to-day operation, safety, and security of the County’s airport system; coordinates, supervises, and directs airport staff and contractors, and performs operational duties; conducts airfield inspections, facilities upkeep, snow removal, fueling, and regulatory tasks; coordinates with the Facilities Division on grant-funded capital projects, and arranges building maintenance, repair, and grounds maintenance, provides services for airport clients, prepares and monitors operating budgets, and ground and hangar leases and prepares related reports; serves as the division’s technical resource on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Caltrans Division of Aeronautics requirements; and performs related duties as assigned. Directs airport safety and security; assists in the enforcement of airport regulations and the implementation of emergency response procedures.
- Plan, organize, direct, and perform airside and landside operations, maintenance programs, and customer services for County-owned airports; establish goals, objectives, policies, and work standards.
- Select, train, supervise, and evaluate operations and administrative staff; provide technical guidance and verify adherence to safety and security protocols.
- Administer operating and capital budgets; develop revenue forecasts; recommend fee schedules; and monitor the Airport Enterprise Fund.
- Negotiate, execute, and track hangar, tie-down, concession, and commercial leases; verify equitable rates, compliance, and timely renewals.
- Develop long-range airport business and master plans; conduct complex operational and financial analyses; present findings and recommendations to leadership, commissions, and the Board.

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in aviation management, business, or public administration, transportation planning, or a closely related field; and five (5) years of increasingly responsible airport operations or business-management experience, including at least two (2) years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.

The County of El Dorado is recruiting applicants for Airport Operations Officer. This recruitment will establish a list for the purpose of filling current and future full-time, part-time, limited term, and extra help vacancies for at least three (3) months. In accordance with Personnel Rules 1103.1 and 1105.1, an extra help or limited term employee may be transitioned into a regular employee if the department in which the employee works has a vacant allocated position for the same classification as held by the extra help or limited term employee and the appointing authority requests such transfer.
