Job Summary:  

The Assistant Kitchen Director supports the daily operations of Switchpoint’s food service programs at the Salt Lake Airport Kitchen. This role helps ensure that residents and clients receive safe, high-quality, and nutritious meals each day. Working closely with the Kitchen Director, this position assists with meal production coordination, inventory management, staff support, and compliance with health and safety standards. The Assistant plays an essential role in maintaining smooth kitchen operations, supporting the team, and ensuring the consistent delivery of nutritious meals across Switchpoint’s facilities. 

Requirements

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, organization, and service. 
  • Support the implementation of established food production procedures to ensure quality and safety. 
  • Help monitor and maintain inventory levels, including receiving and storing food and supplies. 
  • Assist with ordering materials, supplies, and ingredients as directed by the Kitchen Director  
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, pantry, and dining areas in compliance with health codes. 
  • Ensure proper labeling, dating, and rotation of all food products. 
  • Support menu planning and meal preparation based on nutritional guidelines and availability of ingredients. 
  • Track resident dietary needs and assist in accommodating allergies and special meal requirements. 
  • Perform routine checks on equipment and report maintenance needs promptly. 
  • Assist with training and mentoring kitchen volunteers or staff as assigned. 
  • Support meal distribution and delivery logistics to shelters and program sites. 
  • Participate in maintaining accurate meal counts, records, and reports as required. 

Specialized Responsibilities 

  • Assist with food service operations at the Airport Kitchen, ensuring timely meal preparation and delivery. 
  • Coordinate with shelter staff and site managers to support meal distribution and service schedules. 
  • Help organize food donations, surplus management, and other inventory-related projects. 
  • Support special initiatives or revenue-generating activities led by the Director of Nutrition. 

Recordkeeping and Reporting 

  • Maintain accurate records of food and supply inventory, temperature logs, and cleaning schedules. 
  • Report safety issues, incidents, or equipment concerns to the Director of Nutrition immediately. 
  • Support data collection and reporting for program and funding requirements. 

Qualifications: 

  • ServSafe Food Handler certification required (ServSafe Manager preferred). 
  • Knowledge of kitchen health, sanitation, and food safety practices. 
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage time efficiently, and work collaboratively. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. 
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, or varied shifts as needed. 

Compensation 

Hourly range $15 - $17/hr
