It’s an exciting time to join Calix as we’re working together to imagine and create the broadband experience that the world needs – and wants.  Our Quality team is growing and we’re looking for a results driven Operations and Supplier Quality Engineer. 

The Calix Quality Team purpose is to drive organizational improvements, process adherence and product conformity benefiting both Broadband Service Providers (BSPs) and Calix Stakeholders.  In this Operations and Supplier Quality Engineering role, you will assess, qualify, audit and improve electronics manufacturing suppliers based mostly in North America.  Cross-functional collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering is required to ensure that supplier Quality aligns with production requirements and Calix operational goals.

Calix uses external ODMs (Original Design Manufacturer), JDM (Joint Design Manufacturer) and EMS (Electronics Manufacturing Services) companies to build electronic hardware and systems.

The Quality Engineer is expected to regularly validate supplier performance data for completeness, accuracy and unfiltered traceability.

Purpose:

  • Drive a Culture of Quality and continual process improvement with innovation
  • Provide data, information and actionable insights to prioritize improvements
  • Ensure that Suppliers self-audit their processes using Process FMEA and Control Plans
  • Implement prioritized improvement projects with key Suppliers
  • Reduce the most common Supplier preventable RMA causes

Success in this role is best described as clear, concise and constructive recommendations that accelerate problem solving, root cause analysis, and improve measurable KPIs (key performance indicators).  Example KPIs are hardware returns, repeat problem reports, corrective action request completeness, effectiveness and responsiveness.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead Supplier assessments, qualifications and new Product Introduction (NPI) evaluations
  • Improve Manufacturing Process FMEA Reviews based on audits, lessons learned and RMAs
  • Perform risk-based Supplier audits to ensure consistent predictable outcomes
  • Review monthly ORT (Ongoing Reliability Test) results to ensure conformity and detect risks
  • Strengthen failure analysis, identify root cause trends and prioritize Supplier improvements
  • Drive SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request) effectiveness and responsiveness
  • Present monthly local and quarterly global Quality scorecard reviews

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Math, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience, including ISO 9001 and TL 9000 Quality Management System (QMS) best practices
  • SPC (Statistical Process Control) for detecting manufacturing process or return rate trend changes.
  • ASQ (American Society for Quality) certifications, such as certified Quality Engineer, Auditor, Supplier Quality, Green Belt Six Sigma, etc.
  • Experience in electronics manufacturing processes such as Process FMEA, Control Plans, SMT, test, assembly and rework
  • Excellent English communication skills, written and verbal

Location:

  • Remote-based position located near Guadalajara, Jalisco – Mexico
  • 25% Travel required within Mexico and the United States
