- Bachelor's Degree or higher.

- Expertise in instructional design and implementation, including high-quality instructional materials (HQIM), TK-12 assessment strategy and systems, and high-impact professional development and capacity-building structures.
- Ability to build and nurture trusting relationships with leaders, teachers, students, parents, and regional office staff.
- Knowledge of California charter and education landscape a plus.
- As a member of the senior leadership team, co-create the conditions for high performance and high health across the organization.
- Partner with the senior leadership team to ensure the necessary systems and structures in order to break down any silos, effectively communicate, address challenges, empower strong decision-making, and win on our priorities.
- Set direction for high-impact school support; align and coordinate people and resources cross-functionally to clear obstacles, provide excellent service, and maximize the value proposition of the Regional Support Office.
- Create proactive systems that garner feedback from stakeholders to inform school support and school improvement strategies.
- Ensure strong organization-wide systems are in place to support teaching and learning vision, including planning and budgeting, goal-setting and progress monitoring, professional development and Communities of Practice, and MTSS.
- Ensure schools implement agreed-upon non-instructional best practices; and operate in a manner that fosters strong relationships and mitigates organizational risk.
- Represent KIPP NorCal and our values with internal and external stakeholders, including school sites, regional support office, families, community members, and the KIPP network.
- Together with the Deputy Chief of Schools, share management and supervision responsibilities for a portfolio of Managing Directors of Schools, who work directly with School Leaders.
- Set goals and expectations to ensure that the Managing Director of Schools, Academics, School Culture, and Special Education teams share a common vision for how to operationalize the implementation of joyful, academically excellent schools across the TK-12 continuum.
- Build capacity in direct reports through weekly check-ins, on-the-ground observations, and timely, relevant feedback to develop their skills and competencies.
- Regularly review with team and regional leaders a variety of regional student performance and teacher practice data to quickly identify and address concerns.
- Hold team members accountable for the development, support and results of School Leaders; including implementation of regional priorities, full participation in all required regional structures and practices, and compliance with all laws, policies and regulations.
- Support direct reports as needed in challenges that arise in school management, e.g. school climate and culture, performance management, parent concerns, etc.
- Oversee high-quality implementation of our vision for joyful, academically excellent schools to School and Regional Leaders, including data-driven progress monitoring and adjusting for continuous improvement.
- Partner strategically across functions to ensure our academic vision is sustainable, measurable, and operationally executable.
- Foster impactful collaboration between the Lead Learning Team, Managing Director of Schools Team, School Culture Team, and Special Education Team.
- Regularly visit schools to progress monitor implementation of teaching and learning vision and organizational priorities.
- Ensure the alignment and coordination of resources across Academics, School Culture, Special Education, and other teams; collaborating cross-functionally, problem-solving, and removing barriers to accelerating our teaching & learning vision.
- Ensure budgets and resources are stewarded effectively and efficiently in alignment with our vision, strategy, and organizational policies.
- Maintain awareness of the promising practices and innovations in teaching, learning, and school design that are emerging locally and nationally and could positively impact our work to advance educational equity.
- Liaise with the national KIPP Foundation to ensure learning from, alignment with and participation in the One KIPP vision.
