40Position Summary
The Teacher Education Program Coordinator provides guidance and advisement to SFCC students seeking licensure through the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED). The Teacher Education Program Coordinator does not supervise others.This is a Fixed-Term position therefore continous employment is contingent upon further position funding, project completion time, and/or need.
This position will be required to work onsite in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Duties & Responsibilities
Student Advisement & Academic Support:
Serves as the primary advisor for the Alternative Licensure Program (ALTP), assisting students with navigating curriculum and testing requirements, completing course substitution forms, initiating credit for prior learning, and performing degree audits to ensure licensure completion through NMPED.Admissions & Onboarding:
Guides new students through the college application process, including form completion, application review, and next steps for program admission. Manages onboarding tasks such as admissions, transcript evaluation, financial aid coordination, and required documentation.Program Compliance & Reporting:
Collaborates with NMPED to ensure SFCC’s compliance with licensure guidelines, maintains accurate student records, and develops statistical reports for internal and external use.Program Communication & Continuous Improvement:
Disseminates program acceptance and completion letters, provides timely feedback on admission status, assesses exit applications, and identifies program improvement areas to support continuous quality enhancement.Student Engagement & Retention:
Manages student caseload and performs timely outreach to foster a student-centered advisement environment aligned with SFCC’s mission and values, ensuring inclusive support for a diverse population.Administrative & Program Support:
Provides administrative assistance for accreditation-related functions, program operations, special projects, and events in support of departmental goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge and skills of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of college policies and procedures.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Knowledge of New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) licensure rules and regulations.
Knowledge with Federal and State Educational reporting (Title II).
Knowledge of Education entry requirements.
Knowledge of modern office principles and practices.
Knowledge of college departments, functions and offices.
Skills in decision-making and problem-solving.
Skills in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skills in oral and written communication.
Skills in emotional intelligence.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree in Education or a related field.
Five (5) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
Experience in an educational environment or Community College serving traditionally under-served cohorts.
Bilingual (English/Spanish).
Condition of Employment:
Completion of a satisfactory background check.
Physical Demands:
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
Occasional evening and weekend work required.
