Position Summary

 

 

The Director for Special Projects provides strategic, operational, and administrative leadership in support of Livingstone College’s mission and institutional goals. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Special Projects, this role manages high-priority, cross-functional initiatives that advance institutional efficiency, strategic growth, and student success.

 

The Director serves as a bridge between leadership vision and execution, ensuring projects are well-coordinated, measurable, and mission-driven. This position plays a vital role in advancing Livingstone College’s objectives as a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) committed to academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Project Leadership

  • Lead and oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of major institutional projects and special initiatives.
  • Translate executive leadership directives into actionable project plans with defined goals, milestones, deliverables, and performance indicators.
  • Monitor progress, assess outcomes, and provide ongoing status reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Conduct bench-marking, research, and data analysis to inform decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Ensure all initiatives align with the College’s strategic plan and accreditation standards.

Operational and Administrative Management

  • Oversee daily operations and administrative functions of assigned projects.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and vendor contracts in collaboration with Business and Finance.
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance workflow, operational efficiency, and interdepartmental collaboration.
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level reports, proposals, and presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison among internal departments, faculty, staff, and external partners to ensure effective communication and accountability.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration and task force initiatives to drive campus-wide progress.
  • Partner with Communications and Institutional Advancement to promote the visibility of key projects and outcomes.
  • Represent the Office of Special Projects in meetings, committees, and community collaborations.
  • Provide logistical and operational support for special events, ceremonies, and college-wide initiatives managed by the Office of Special Projects.
  • Coordinate with the Event Manager and other stakeholders to ensure the successful planning and execution of institutional events and functions associated with Special Projects.

Education/ Experience

 

What you will need to be successful!

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business Administration, Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in project management, operations, or higher education administration.
  • Proven success managing complex, multi-departmental projects with measurable outcomes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including report and proposal preparation.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate sound professional judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service, excellence, and the mission of Livingstone College.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Standard office environment; may require occasional evening or weekend work for institutional events.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
