Salary Range: $53,000 to $60,000

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The International Student Advisor supports international students throughout their academic journey, ensuring compliance with immigration regulations and promoting successful cultural and academic integration. This position will oversee and manage programming efforts for international students and collaborate with other departments on campus to create additional engagement opportunities. To serve as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) by issuing immigration documents and advising international students on U.S. immigration laws. This position requires nights and weekends, when applicable, for programs and activities that occur throughout the year.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Advising: Advise F-1 and J-1 international students on F-1/J-1 visa regulations, SEVIS compliance and immigration procedures. Also, advise on personal, academic, financial, social/cultural issues and refer students to appropriate campus resources. Serve as a DSO and ARO.
  • Programming: Oversee all OISS cross-cultural and social programming for current international students, including but not limited to Friendship Family, graduate programming, Global Tommies, World of Celebrations, etc. Serve as liaison with Study Abroad, Center for Student Achievement and Student Affairs departments to provide intercultural programming and ways to connect international and domestic students; represent OISS on relevant committees. Manage programming budgets, make decisions regarding programs and events, and oversee assessment of above programs to fulfill learning outcomes and enhance international student retention.
  • Supervision/Training: Hire, train, and supervise graduate assistant and co-lead International Student Ambassador program.
  • Event planning: Plan on-campus visits for high school counselors, delegations and agents who visit St. Thomas.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, student affairs, counseling or international related field

    • Three years of experience in program management and/or higher education

    • This position requires U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency as required by the federal government to serve as a Designated School Official and an Alternate Responsible Officer

    An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • International experience, (i.e., study or travel abroad)

    • Immigration advising experience

    • Master’s degree

    • Knowledge of at least one foreign language
