Senior Bridge Engineer presso National Capital Commission

The position is classified as a RÉ-06 ($94,550 to $127,698 per annum).

JOB OVERVIEW
The Senior Bridge Engineer plays a crucial role in managing the life cycle of the NCC’s engineering assets. This includes the Champlain and Portage interprovincial bridges in the National Capital Region, as well as other bridges and dams owned by the NCC. Primary responsibilities include overseeing consultant activities, conducting thorough investigations and assessments, leading design initiatives, and offering expert advice throughout all stages of bridge project development and delivery. Additionally, the Senior Bridge Engineer collaborates with Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) concerning other interprovincial bridges in the National Capital Region, such as Chaudière Crossing, Macdonald-Cartier Bridge and Alexandra Bridge. The Engineer is committed to ensuring compliance with all pertinent standards and policies and communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Civil or Structural Engineering or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

LICENCE
Must be licensed/registered as a professional member in Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or the - Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ). If the candidate holds an engineering licence from another Canadian province or territory, they are required to complete the licence transfer within the first year of employment.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five years providing professional services in structural engineering, specifically relating to bridges.

KNOWLEDGE
•    Knowledge of the theory and practice of bridge and structural engineering, soil mechanics, asphalt and concrete technology, hydrology and hydraulics, geology, traffic patterns and surveying. 
•    Knowledge of inspection processes, ensuring that structures meet the industry’s safety and quality standards.
•    Knowledge in project management: This includes the ability to plan, execute, monitor, and close out projects efficiently with an understanding of how to allocate resources, manage teams, mitigate risks and ensure that projects are delivered on time, on scope and on budget. 
•    Knowledge of the current construction industry: This means staying updated with the latest trends, techniques and best practices that shape the industry’s landscape.

WORKING CONDITIONS
•    Regularly carries out work at sites undergoing construction where protective equipment such as, hard hats and safety shoes, are required. May be called upon to conduct emergency inspections in the case of flooding or other emergencies.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT    
•    Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.

•    Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace.
