Job Purpose

An exciting opportunity for a Maintenance & Repair Manager to join our growing team!

This role will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance and repair activities for empty shipping containers within the depot. This includes managing inspection, estimation, repair, and quality control processes to ensure containers meet shipping line standards, operational efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage and coordinate daily M&R activities for dry, reefer, and special containers.

  • Ensure repairs are conducted in compliance with shipping line standards (IICL, CIC, or owner-specific criteria)

  • Plan, prioritise, and monitor survey and repair workloads to meet operational turnaround targets.

  • Manage teams and internal resources to allow for response to requests for repairs without disruption to our customers

  • Maintain control of stock/supplies in store

  • Assist in the capture of financial maintenance data against work orders

  • Provide leadership, direction and training for all direct reports 

  • Directly supervise employees and observe team members to ensure that all are adequately trained and assessed as competent to safely perform their respective duties

  • Maintain employee productivity to meet customer service level agreements

  • Liaise with shipping line representatives, surveyors, and depot customers regarding estimates, repair authorisations, and repair quality.

  • Resolve disputes on repair costs or container condition.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Related trade qualification - welding or Engineering experience advantageous but not required

  • IICL and DPI Certificate

  • 2.6 Certificate

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in surveying and workshop 

  • Strong Modal Work Order module understanding

  • Team leadership experience 

  • Experience using shipping line systems
