Analytics Engineer/Data Analyst 

The Opportunity 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a mid level data professional to drive the development of operational data products & solutions. You'll work closely with our Lead Analytics Engineer, establishing & adhering to best practices, collaborating with business users, and building the data foundation that powers decision-making across Tassal's operations. 

We have a pipeline of data-driven projects focused on optimising operations, advanced analytics and governed access to data. You'll assist with the design and build of data architectures that make these solutions possible - ensuring they're scalable, maintainable, and aligned with best practice software development principles. 

Based in Hobart (Tasmania) with hybrid flexibility & work from home options (after probation), you'll have access to regional & global opportunities as part of the Cooke Inc group. 

What You'll Do 

  • Assist in delivery and design of data solutions on our platform(s) (Databricks/Snowflake). Make decisions about data models, transformation approaches, and pipeline patterns. 
  • Design and develop sophisticated data pipelines and ETL workflows using tools like Databricks jobs, Azure Data Factory (ADF), dbt and Fivetran. Ensure pipelines are reliable, scalable, and efficient. 
  • Build and optimise data models to ensure scalability and high performance across complex analytical workloads. Design schemas that support both operational and analytical use cases. 
  • Develop robust data ingestion solutions following our data development standards. Ensure accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and graceful error handling and recovery. 
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level analytics engineers sharing knowledge and building capability across the team. Establish code review practices and development standards. 
  • Contribute to data governance and quality standards across the platform. Ensure solutions adhere to our data handling and security policies. 
  • Collaborate with Business Systems team, Product engineering and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust data architectures and deliver solutions that meet business needs. 

About You 

Essential qualifications and experience: 

  • Experience with mapping business processes, strategies & goals to data products to drive innovation & improvement  
  • 3-5+ years of professional experience in data analytics, engineering or adjacent roles . 
  • Expertise in at least one modern data stack: Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent cloud data platforms. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in building and optimising data models for scalability and performance. 
  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to write performant, maintainable queries and complex transformations. 
  • Proficiency in at least one modern data transformation tool: dbt or equivalent. 
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated data pipelines and orchestration workflows. 
  • Strong understanding of data governance, quality standards, and data security best practices. 
  • Proven ability to make architectural and design decisions with consideration for scalability and maintainability. 
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring or leading other engineers and establishing best practice standards. 

Highly advantageous: 

  • Experience with Python or other programming languages for data engineering workflows. 
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Fivetran or other enterprise data integration tools. 
  • Experience with constraint-based optimisation, operational scheduling, or advanced analytics. 
  • Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, aquaculture, or other vertically integrated industries.
