Position Summary:
Wellstar MCG is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Pediatric Critical Care Medicine team, specializing in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The APP will work collaboratively with pediatric intensivists, cardiologists, surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents in both the PICU and CVICU.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive, evidence-based critical care to pediatric patients in the PICU and CVICU under physician supervision.
Conduct thorough patient assessments, develop and implement individualized treatment plans, and closely monitor patient progress, particularly in high-acuity cardiac and respiratory conditions.
Perform procedures, including invasive monitoring, central line placement, and other critical care interventions as appropriate and within scope of practice.
Collaborate closely with pediatric intensivists, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric surgeons, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes in both the PICU and CVICU settings.
Participate in family communication, offering education and emotional support to families during critical and often life-threatening situations.
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, clinical protocols, and evidence-based guidelines to enhance patient care and safety.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all care delivered in the electronic medical record system.
Engage in continuous educational and professional development activities to stay current with advances in pediatric critical care and cardiology.
Qualifications:
Master’s or Doctorate degree as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).
Current licensure and certification as an NP or PA in the state of Georgia.
Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) or equivalent certification preferred for NPs.
Previous experience in pediatric critical care, particularly in the PICU or CVICU, strongly preferred.
Advanced clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills, particularly in complex cardiac and respiratory conditions.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, managing multiple critical care patients.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and emotional intelligence skills to support families and colleagues in high-stress situations.
