About BDO

At BDO Australia, our why is ‘empowering people, realising possibilities’. One way we bring this to life is by hiring and developing exceptional talent, to deliver on our wide array of audit, tax and advisory services.

About the Role

Every business faces a financial reporting or accounting issue at some stage – whether this be due to growth or due to changes in financial and/or sustainability reporting standards. In these situations, expert advice underpinned by an in-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Accounting Standards and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards are crucial.

As the IFRS Accounting Standards, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and Australian Accounting Standards (including the new AASB S2 Climate-related Disclosures) continue to change and challenge industries, our team is expanding and continuing to uncover new opportunities and new ways to assist our clients.

Current Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Director to join our IFRS & Corporate Reporting team in Melbourne. In this role, you will provide a range of technical and strategic, financial and corporate reporting advice to clients. This is a client-facing advisory role which requires the application of technical accounting and carbon emissions measurement principles.

This role offers a great variety of work, across a diverse client portfolio representing multiple industries, including working directly with fast-paced, exciting businesses and household brand names.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Interpret and provide input into the development of new technical accounting solutions that support client delivery and risk management teams within BDO’s Melbourne office.

  • Conduct climate risk and opportunity assessments.

  • Conduct climate scenario analysis to assess climate resilience.

  • Preparation of corporate disclosures and publications in accordance with reporting frameworks and requirements.

  • Preparation of mandatory and voluntary sustainability reports.

  • Assist with the development of sustainability and climate-specific strategy, including decarbonisation strategies and target setting.

About You

  • Strong interest and knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Accounting Standards, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and Australian Accounting Standards (AASB).

  • Ability and interest to progressively develop an in-depth technical understanding of new sustainability topics.

  • Ability to succinctly present on a technical topic, and articulate the issue and impact for our clients.

  • Genuine interest in environment, social and governance (ESG) issues or a strong desire to work in sustainability and decarbonisation strategy engagements.
