Campus Security Sergeant 
Salary: $54,204 - $72,924 annually*
Classification: Classified Staff
Reports to: Director of Security & Emergency Management 

Olympic College is seeking to hire a full-time classified Campus Security Sergeant. Positions allocated to this class perform patrol duties of the security officer, and are responsible for supervising a group of security officers or other security staff while protecting life and property; enforcing laws and ordinances, maintaining order, and preventing and investigating crimes.

Position Duties

  • Oversee and support security officers to ensure compliance, efficiency, and safety. Responsibilities include conducting monthly meetings, developing and delivering training programs, coordinating new hire orientation, evaluating performance, managing timesheets, and maintaining training records. Assist in improving the Field Training Officer (FTO) program and ensure staff readiness and adherence to institutional policies.
  • Direct daily campus safety and security operations through patrols, emergency response, and enforcement of institutional policies. Responsibilities include conducting foot and vehicle patrols, responding to alarms and emergencies, operating communication and surveillance systems, assisting with vehicle and access issues, securing buildings, documenting incidents, coordinating with law enforcement, and reporting Clery Act crimes.
  • Support the Director in planning and executing emergency preparedness drills and training. Responsibilities include organizing quarterly drills, monitoring evacuations for compliance, identifying and addressing issues, coordinating safe reentry, and communicating emergency alerts through Omni Alert and campus broadcast systems.
  • Conduct follow-up investigations of incidents involving disturbances, accidents, theft, or policy violations. Responsibilities include interviewing involved parties, reviewing video and access logs, reporting findings to the Director or HR, coordinating with law enforcement, issuing citations for campus violations, and assisting EHS with accident investigations.
  • Monitor and manage security-issued keys and proximity badges to ensure compliance with access control policies. Responsibilities include reviewing secure location records for accuracy, conducting monthly audits, verifying key inventory, and ensuring adherence to institutional security procedures.
  • Perform various duties as assigned in the field or office to support campus security operations. Responsibilities include attending departmental meetings and training sessions, assisting with special assignments, and managing parking logistics such as blocking off spaces or lots when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent 
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Two (2) years police, campus security or military law enforcement experience.
  • First aid/ CPR certified or the ability to be by the time of employment

Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).

  • Understanding of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Clery Act.

  • Experience working in a higher education or campus security environment.

  • Knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogens and related safety protocols.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.

  • Ability to learn and enforce rules, follow written and verbal instructions, and exercise sound judgment, objectivity, and fairness in decision-making.

Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position.  Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $54,204 - $72,924 annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A, when you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union. Classified positions qualify for the following benefits:
