About the Department
Perform a vital role in ensuring the reliable delivery of essential services to our community by performing repair and maintenance to essential infrastructure to ensure the reliable delivery of municipal utility services.
Position Duties
- Assist Utility Technician team in construction, maintenance, and installation of water infrastructure.
- Receive and understand oral and written instructions from Revenue Collections/Utility Billing division.
- Record work activities and materials used in maintenance records.
- Perform wet and dry taps, meter exchanges, hydrant repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Operate construction equipment such as jack hammers, saws, and pumps.
- Perform manual or machine-assisted valve exercising.
- Conduct meter testing three inches and above.
- Assist customers with various water related problems.
- Maintain supplies and materials in assigned trucks.
- Assist contractors with water main shut downs, flushing, and inspections.
- Provide emergency assistance and support for water-related issues.
- Be available for extended hours and on-call duty for emergencies.
- In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
- Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
- Drive to City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Class E driver license. Must obtain State of Florida Class E driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of dual water distribution system.
- Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Licensing Requirements:
Within the first eighteen (18) months of employment, we require all Utility Service Technicians to obtain a Level III Department of Environmental Protection Water Distribution License. We understand that obtaining this license requires time and commitment, which is why we cover the cost associated with the licensing process.
Career Development:
Once you have obtained your Level III license, we encourage and support your progression to higher levels of licensing. As you progress from a Level III to a Level II license, you will receive a 1.5% in-band increase. Similarly, when you further advance from a Level II to a Level I license, you will receive a 2.0% in-band increase. These increases reflect our recognition of your dedication and continued professional development.
Other Qualifications
Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required.
If selected, post-offer essential functions assessment is required to evaluate the ability to safely meet the physical demands of the job.
