Arupâs Data Centre and Critical Facilities team is globally recognised for being at the forefront of the industry. We deliver a comprehensive range of services that support clients throughout the entire lifecycle of their projects. From initial site due diligence and masterplanning to fully integrated ACSMEP and specialist systems designâincluding security, telecoms, and other critical infrastructureâwe provide tailored solutions that meet the evolving demands of the industry.
Our expertise extends to enhancing operational performance and sustainability through energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives on live facilities. We also offer whole lifecycle carbon analysis to help clients make informed decisions that align with their environmental goals. In addition, our team supports strategic growth and transformation through merger and acquisition advisory services, as well as project, programme, and cost management.

The Opportunity
This is a very exciting role, providing you with the opportunity to develop into a leadership position, with the support and mentoring of our large and expanding team. You will be given the support to develop your team and client leadership skills, whilst taking responsibility for leading small projects and developing your multi-disciplinary knowledge. Â
Our Data Centre Team is a global network of Architects, Engineers and Specialist Consultants working with the largest and most innovative businesses in the sector. Whilst many projects are Data Centre focussed there are lots of opportunities for involvement in other Critical Facility projects including Healthcare and TV/Film Studios.Â
Our clients include developers; enterprise users; telecommunication services; edge; retail and wholesale colocation providers and all the major hyperscale cloud services providers. Â
Our London team delivers projects across the UK, Europe, India and Africa. Our unique delivery model of Engineered Architecture co-locates Arupâs Architects, Engineers and specialists as one project team which improves collaboration and coordination. In these highly serviced buildings, our Architects appreciate that the engineering must lead the design and the architecture follows the function - although there is room for design flair and innovation.Â
Responsibilities will include:
Managing the mechanical design concepts that encompass the latest design thinking on low energy/water data centre design, resilience, commissioning and maintenanceÂ
Coordinating the design analysis and working with the team to optimise systemsÂ
Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specificationsÂ
Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialistsÂ
Mentoring and development of junior colleagues and continuing your own professional developmentÂ

Is this role right for you?
Weâre looking for a candidate who:
- Is a Chartered Engineer, or on track to achieve Chartered status (CIBSE / IMechE) within 6â12 months, in the field of Building Services ( CIBSE / IMechE).
- Has experience working on the development of data centre projects throughout all stages of design and construction & will have had some experience of direct client and contractor interaction regarding topics such as:
- Design of different cooling solutions including chilled water systems;Â
- PUE/WUE calculations and efficienciesÂ
- TIER levels of resilience and business continuity:
- Testing and commissioningÂ
Has strong commercial awareness, with experience in predicting, planning, and managing resource requirements to achieve financial targets
- Is Proficient in energy modelling software, ideally IES, and experienced in using 3D modelling tools such as Revit. Familiarity with 6Sigma CFD software  in the context of Data Centre projects, is desirable.
Has an inquisitive nature and a strong interest in investigating and researching new opportunities, ways of working, and technologies that enhance our Critical Systems offering. Also committed to developing the Data Centre business by attending industry events, speaking at conferences, and cultivating relationships with industry partners.
