Position Overview

The Simulation Educator is responsible for advancing nursing education by designing, implementing, and evaluating simulation-based learning experiences. This role emphasizes faculty development, curriculum integration, and operational excellence, ensuring students receive transformative, hands-on training that reflects current nursing standards. The educator collaborates closely with the Manager of Simulation and nursing faculty to foster a culture of continuous improvement and clinical excellence through evidence-based simulation practices.

 

Job Functions

Faculty Training & Development

  • Design and lead training sessions for nursing faculty on simulation-based teaching methods.

  • Develop and update standard operating procedures, policies, and skills checklists to ensure consistent program delivery.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and support for faculty integrating simulation into their courses.

  • Promote continuous learning and clinical excellence through simulation.

Simulation Design & Facilitation

  • Collaborate with faculty and the Manager of Simulation to develop, implement, and evaluate simulation scenarios aligned with curriculum goals.

  • Facilitate debriefing sessions using evidence-based techniques to enhance student learning and reflection.

  • Oversee volunteers and standardized patients participating in simulation exercises.

Operational Support and Collaboration

  • Work with simulation operations specialists and technicians to ensure proper setup, maintenance, and use of simulation equipment and manikins.

  • Participate in scheduling, planning, and coordination of simulation activities across nursing units and educational programs.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and simulation center policies.

Academic Integration & Faculty Collaboration

  • Partner with faculty to align simulation activities with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with simulation educators to design, deliver, and evaluate innovative simulation-based learning experiences.

  • Support faculty development by providing training and guidance on simulation best practices.

Program Development & Quality Assurance

  • Support continuous improvement of simulation-based education through program assessment and student feedback.
  • Ensure simulations reflect current nursing principles, procedures, and best practices.

  • Guide simulation sessions to include pre-briefing, scenario facilitation, and debriefing using recognized best practices (e.g., INACSL standards).

  • Assist in integrating innovative teaching strategies and technologies into the simulation program.

 

Marginal Functions

  • Participate in professional development activities related to simulation and nursing education.

  • Contribute to research and scholarship in simulation-based learning.

  • Represent the simulation program at internal and external meetings or conferences as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Oversee volunteers and standardized patients during simulation exercises, ensuring adherence to protocols and providing guidance as needed.

  • May supervise simulation operations specialists or technicians in collaboration with the Manager of Simulation.

 

Required Qualifications

Department Qualifications

Required

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and at least 3 years direct care experience and/or teaching experience
  • Current or eligible RN license in the state of Florida.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles, procedures, and clinical best practices.
  • Ability to adapt to emerging simulation technologies.
  • Flexibility to manage often-changing simulation event needs
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in simulation-based education or clinical teaching.
  • Familiarity with debriefing techniques and evidence-based learning methodologies.
  • Knowledge of simulation accreditation standards and emerging educational technologies.
  • INACSL Certification (International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning) or willing to obtain certification within 2 years.
  • DNP or PhD in nursing
