Description

The Commandant of the Corps of Cadets at Georgia Military College is a high-impact leadership position reporting directly to the President of GMC. The Corps’ mission is to develop well-educated leaders of character, prepared to solve future global challenges, and the Commandant plays a central role in achieving that mission. This individual is responsible for fostering a culture that embodies GMC’s core values of respect, excellence, leadership, loyalty, integrity, and selfless service, while enriching the educational, professional, and leadership development of cadets to produce exceptional commissioned officers and leaders across industry, government, and community sectors.
The Commandant must be an experienced and professional leader with outstanding communication, organizational, and team-building skills, capable of thriving in a dynamic environment. They are expected to establish and sustain collaborative relationships throughout the College and with external stakeholders, promote the Corps of Cadets, and support ROTC programs. The Commandant works closely with the President to ensure key initiatives, developments, and strategic priorities are communicated to the Board of Trustees and other governing bodies. This role carries elevated accountability and influence, shaping the Corps’ culture, academic and leadership standards, and the overall reputation of Georgia Military College. This is a mission-critical leadership position offering the opportunity to shape one of the nation’s most respected Corps of Cadets and advance GMC’s legacy of leadership and service.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the planning, training, and professional development of the Corps of Cadets.
  • Uphold discipline, standards, and welfare for all cadets.
  • Manage Corps operations, facilities, and program administration.
  • Collaborate with College leadership and ROTC programs to advance strategic goals.
  • Shape policies, programs, and initiatives that strengthen the Corps’ culture and national reputation.

Qualifications


Education:

Minimum Required: Master’s degree or military professional education of a senior level: (War College or equivalent senior-level military education)

Preferred Level: Leadership/command experience in officer training, ROTC, or military education programs. 

 

Experience:

Minimum Required: Experience as a senior officer with extensive command experience at the brigade level (O-6). 

 

Skills:

Minimum Required: Strong communication, strategic planning, and organizational management skills. Ability to foster collaborative relationships across divisions and external stakeholders. Exceptional ability to inspire, motivate, and guide cadets and staff toward achieving high standards.

Preferred Level: Skilled in learning principles, coaching, and leadership development. Strong organizational, project management, and team-building skills to oversee daily operations, training programs, and administrative functions. Proficiency leveraging technology and management tools to enhance operational efficiency, cadet performance tracking, and program oversight.
