JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Payroll Specialist works with departments and the System Payroll Office to ensure faculty, staff and students are paid timely and correctly. This position supports the UT Health Science Center, UT Chattanooga-Clinical, UT Knoxville-Clinical, and the Jackson Family Medical Center. This position is also responsible for ensuring that items such as time entry, court-ordered payments, terminations, taxes, deductions, and employee changes and updates are processed in the payroll system for all the campuses it serves.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes all aspects of the student hire process for student workers (i.e., residents, graduate research assistants, student assistants).
- Posts jobs on DASH/Oracle and communicates with departments and human resources to obtain necessary documents to complete the student hire process.
- Processes student transfers and additional assignments for departments as needed.
- Enters and approves time for bi-weekly employees without access to the system or experience problems entering time.
- Reviews time entries during the pay cycle to ensure employees are not entering and submitting time prior to time worked.
- Reviews employee's pay records to determine if an overpayment has been made; calculates the overpayment and communicates the information to the employee, department and system payroll office.
- Processes service credit form for employees leaving the university and moving to another state board entity.
- Serves as liaison for UT Health Science Center, Campus Police, HSC Hub, and GME department in submitting miscellaneous charges for employees to the system payroll office for entry into DASH/Oracle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (Associate's Degree in Accounting, Business, Office Administration, or a related field preferred.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of business-related experience; OR an Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of business-related experience; OR a combination of education and experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Skill utilizing Microsoft Office.
- Ability to type 25 wpm.
