Job Summary:
The Human Resources Business Partner provides day-to-day support for HR operations for assigned schools within the University Prep Schools network. This role is involved in every aspect of HR processes in support of the employee population and life cycle. The HR Business Partner supports specialized HR activities for employees including developing creative strategies and solutions for attracting, hiring and retaining exceptional talent, onboarding, customer service, employee relations, absence management, compliance and assists in developing, planning and maintaining human resources policies, procedures and organizational initiatives. The HR Business Partner also provides day-to-day employee and management support for inquiries as well as training and support for various HR technologies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Talent Acquisition
- Partner with Director of Talent to develop creative strategies and solutions that attracts exceptional talent
- Attends and coordinates job fairs if needed
- Enforces policies and procedures for recruiting
- Ensures applicable employment laws are applied appropriately
- Researches inquiries from prospective applicants and hiring managers and provides timely resolutions
- Responds to and handles applicant inquiries related to applications
- Responds to inquiries related to new hire process
Employee Onboarding
- Serve as the main point of contact for new hires during the onboarding process
- Facilitates a comprehensive orientation which reviews key policies and procedures
- Ensures all schools/departments follow the organization’s onboarding process to provide a welcoming experience for new employees
- Issues ID/building access badge
- Ensures that all background checks and required onboarding documents are received on time and create employee files
- Performs all verifications of employment
- Ensures all required certifications are valid and current
- Ensures new hires employees are entered accurately into Paycom for payroll purposes
- Provide new hires with first pay information, AESOP account login information, ID badge, and employment agreement
Audits & Compliance
- Participates in all MDE and authorizer human resource compliance audits
- Serves as the assistant SCECH coordinator and complies with SCECH policies, criteria and guidelines and maintains accurate DPPD records
- Maintains teacher certification records
- Semi-annually updates all staff data; income (salaried staff), position or grade level or class changes in the Registry of Educational Personnel for all employees in the network. Updates effectiveness rating for teachers and admin
- Submits educator effectiveness appeals to MDE when necessary
- Request and review CHRI (criminal history record information) for all new hires and determine eligibility of job assignment, ensuring all documentation CHRI related documentation for audit purposes is in each employee file
- Provides the appeal process to candidates who have not been cleared for employment with the network
- Update livescan and waiver forms as necessary
- Title IX and Documentation
Separation of Service
- Conducts employee transition (exit) interviews, updates the surveys as needed, and prepares survey reports
- Completes required separation forms via Paycom
- Manages exit materials (exit checklists and communication messages) to employees and managers
Retention
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop creative strategies and solutions to retain exceptional talent
- Works with entire HR Team to maintain the Employee Handbook and provides updates as needed
- Listens and learns to keep pulse on employee morale
Volunteers
- Responsible for processing all volunteer applications for the network
- Conducts background screening for all volunteers via ICHAT, OTIS and the Michigan Sexual Offender registry
- Provides schools with spreadsheets for approved and unapproved volunteers
University/College Student Teachers
- Coordinate with University Placement Specialists, School Directors and Teachers to place student teachers in the Network
Frontline Administrator
- Assists employees with technical issues
- Provides technical support to school employees and campus users as needed
- Adds and deletes new users in the system. Sends new hires invitations to register for the absence management system
- Uses knowledge-based information to answer inquiries
- Routes calls and/or emails to appropriate staff when necessary
Verifications
- Employment Verification (verbal and written)
- Unprofessional Conduct Forms
- CHRI Requests
- Completion of Work Experience forms, PSLF forms, TLF forms
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; will consider Associate’s degree with 5 years of experience preferably in a school district
- SHRM certification preferred
- Five (5) years’ experience utilizing a HCM system (including ATS, onboarding, benefits administration, payroll, etc.)
- Experience developing a sourcing and recruitment strategy
- Three (3) years of proven recruitment results
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent time management skill with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to acquire a thorough understanding of U Prep’s hierarchy, jobs, qualifications, compensation practices, and administrative practices related to those factors
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
- Experience in education environment preferred
- High knowledge of employment laws preferred
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
