About the Department
The FIPS facilitator will host weekly groups in the CORE Lounge for CORE identifying students. Groups will be held twice a month (2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month) 11:00-AM-12:15PM.
Position Duties
- Facilitate peer support groups twice a month in the CORE Lounge (2nd & 4th Wednesday, 11:00 AM–12:15 PM), following the FIPS curriculum.
- Open and close the CORE Lounge during group sessions & weekly at other agreed upon times (can coordinate with current class schedule).
- Collaborate with HCC staff and community partners to plan and enhance programming.
- Support students by fostering a respectful, supportive group culture.
- Assist in group planning, communication, and follow-up as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Coursework towards an Associates degree & lived experience with CORE @ HCC.
- Energetic and conscientious individual who is capable through education and lived experience — of providing a supportive and positive environment for adults returning from incarceration.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Interest in the criminal legal system and carceral education.
- The ability to respond with sensitivity to multiple stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of, and investment in, the mission of CORE @ HCC.
- Experience with peer mentoring and tutoring programs.
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Formerly incarcerated candidates or candidates with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience working in an academic setting.
- Experience and knowledge of local Hampden and Hampshire County carceral systems.
- Experience and knowledge of Holyoke Community College.
Other Qualifications
Part-Time, Non-Benefitted Position:
- Hours: Up to 5 hours per week.
- Hourly Range: $18.00 - $20.00.
