• Student: Child (6–7 years old, first grader)

• Location: Summerville, South Carolina – near Islesworth Way 

• Preferred start date: ASAP

• Lesson format: Face-to-face, in-person

Details

• Availability: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings (4:00 pm – 8:00 pm)

• Lesson Frequency: 3 times per week

• Lesson Duration: 1 hour

• Current English level: Beginner

• Native/other languages: Spanish

• Goals:
  • Strengthen early reading and writing skills to reach grade-level proficiency
  • Improve phonics, sound blending, and sight word recognition
  • Build confidence in reading aloud and forming complete sentences
  • Develop foundational vocabulary and comprehension
  • Encourage communication in English through play-based learning and conversation

• Additional Information:
  • Student is shy at first but opens up with trust and encouragement
  • Lessons should be empathetic, patient, and engaging
  • Game-like and playful activities are essential for motivation and learning
  • Interests include dinosaurs, soccer, Playmobil, Transformers, and superheroes

Responsibilities

• Create child-friendly, interactive lessons that build literacy and confidence

• Focus on phonics, sound blending, and reading comprehension

• Incorporate games, storytelling, and visual aids to maintain engagement

• Provide a supportive, patient environment that fosters self-expression

• Adapt activities to student interests and developmental level

• Track progress and communicate regularly with the family

Qualifications

• Native or near-native proficiency in English

• Certificate or degree in early childhood education, linguistics, or related field

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching English to young children

• Strong ability to make lessons fun, engaging, and age-appropriate

• Empathy, patience, and creativity are essential
