Position Summary
The Process Engineer provides technical and strategic leadership for OGI’s shop operations, ensuring the efficiency, safety, and scalability of all manufacturing processes. This role bridges design and production - driving process optimization, capacity planning, and workflow improvements across fabrication, assembly, testing, and shipping operations. The Process Engineer is accountable for ensuring operational readiness, cost-effective production, and continuous improvement consistent with OGI’s API Q1 Quality Management System, ASME requirements, and company values of Collaboration, Commitment to Excellence, and Innovation. This role ensures manufacturability and cost control for engineered-to-order (ETO) heater systems, from design concept through final assembly and test.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
• Develop and implement a comprehensive process engineering and capacity planning strategy that aligns with OGI’s production goals, workforce capabilities, and customer demand.
• Lead the development of scalable processes to meet growth targets across heater and skid production lines.
• Partner with Operations, Production, and Engineering to ensure seamless transition from design release to fabrication and assembly.
• Support implementation through measurable KPIs, dashboards, and accountability systems.
Capacity Planning & Resource Management
• Lead OGI’s capacity and throughput modeling, using historical performance data, standard times, and forecasted sales demand to determine manpower, equipment, and floor-space requirements.
• Analyze resource utilization, equipment uptime, and labor efficiency to develop short- and long-term capacity plans.
• Provide data-driven insights to guide hiring plans, overtime strategy, and make/buy decisions.
• Maintain a balanced production schedule that optimizes lead time, labor cost, and equipment availability.
• Collaborate with Finance and Scheduling to forecast production capacity and identify bottlenecks before they impact delivery.
Process Optimization & Technical Excellence
• Develop and standardize manufacturing routings, work instructions, and process documentation across product lines.
• Conduct time studies, process mapping, and root-cause analysis to identify and eliminate waste.
• Drive implementation of Lean and Six Sigma principles throughout the production environment.
• Lead initiatives to improve material flow, layout design, and ergonomic safety in the shop.
• Introduce automation, digital work instructions, and real-time performance tracking where appropriate.
• Partner with Production to validate and maintain accurate routings, standard labor times, and work center definitions within Epicor.
Continuous Improvement & Quality Integration
• Lead Kaizen events and coordinate with Quality to address nonconformances and implement preventive actions.
• Establish feedback loops between Engineering, Production, and Quality to improve manufacturability and reduce rework.
• Partner with the QA Manager to maintain risk-based process assurance and compliance with API Q1 and ASME Section VIII standards.
• Evaluate and validate changes to processes, tooling, and fixtures through structured Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
• Serve as the process owner for manufacturing workflows under Quality Management System, ensuring ongoing compliance and audit readiness.
Leadership & People Development
• Provide training and coaching to supervisors and production teams to ensure process adherence and standard work compliance.
• Promote a collaborative culture that encourages accountability, data-driven decision-making, and cross-functional teamwork.
• Mentor supervisors and lead in problem-solving, visual management, and use of daily production metrics.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• 10+ years of progressive experience in process/manufacturing engineering, with 5+ in leadership within an engineered-to-order or pressure-vessel manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in capacity planning, workflow analysis, and production scheduling.
• Experience with Epicor ERP (or similar MRP systems), routing design, and job-cost analysis.
• Working knowledge of API Q1, ASME, OSHA, and ISO 9001 standards.
Technical Competencies
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for layout design and process documentation.
• Skilled in Lean, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of welding, fabrication, assembly, and testing processes.
• Data-driven mindset with ability to use Excel, Power BI, or similar tools for capacity modeling.
