Before & After School Program - Assistant Site Leader

 

Purpose Statement

The purpose of an Assistant Site Leader is to assist in the management of site level before/after school program according to program procedures while providing a safe and secure instructional environment.  

 

Job Title: Before & After School Program - Assistant Site Leader

Hourly Rate: $18.25-$20.00/hour, based on qualifications and experience

Job Details

  • Attend Required Professional Development: Staff Orientation and Training – as scheduled 
  • Attend additional youth development and other professional development, as required
  • Attend monthly site leadership meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of regular program hours
  • Attend site team meetings as scheduled, potentially outside of regular program hours

Employment Dates: August – June

  • Hours: Monday – Friday 6:15 – 7:45 a.m. 
  • Hours: Monday – Friday 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. 
  • No-School Day Camps – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Extended Break Camp (winter, spring) – required availability 6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., as enrollment requires
  • Inclement Weather Program Days – per Handbook inclement weather hours

Position hours are part-time.  Total weekly hours will not exceed 29.75; exact hours are per individual employment agreement.  Position is scheduled for the full program contract year.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Meets the Iowa Department of Human Services assistant site supervisor requirements
  • Certified teacher or degreed professional, preferred.
  • 3 years classroom/relevant experience working with school-age youth, preferred.
  • Project management/leadership experience, preferred.
  • Experience as a mentor/coach with children and/or adult, preferred.
  • Supervisory experience, preferred.

 

Essential Functions

  • Administer quality Before & After School Program site while adhering to District policy, program procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services Minimum Standards.
  • Firm understanding of District and program policy and procedures, and Iowa Department of Human Services minimum standards, to maintain student safety and security, respond appropriately to parent inquiries/concerns, and supervise employees.
  • Maintain open communications with parents and customers while providing exemplary customer care.
  • Maintain confidentiality of personnel and student information and records.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and coach Before & After School Program site staff and substitutes.
  • Establish a positive, supportive, and working relationship with employees.
  • Develop and maintain an effective level of communication with appropriate personnel, including program employees, district administrators, and the program manager.
  • Communicate program expectations and procedures clearly, effectively, and in a positive manner to employees and students.
  • Accurately compile and maintain required site documentation. 
  • Submit required reports to Manager by established deadlines.
  • Successfully implement and model positive student behavior management techniques.
  • Assist with implementation and coaching/modeling of academic, enrichment, and recreational curriculum/programs; actively participate and engage in activities with students; not just supervise or observe.
  • Present a positive image of the program while providing exemplary customer care and ensure program procedures are followed by all assignees. 
  • Prepare high-quality, hands-on, engaging, and age-appropriate curriculum, when necessary. 
  • Assist employees in adapting instructional activities to assist and meet the needs of students. 
  • Assist the Manager in developing, implementing, and evaluating practices and procedures to improve the Before & After School Program.
  • Demonstrate responsible control over assigned program resources. 
  • Ensure materials and supplies are available.
  • Attend work regularly, routinely, and on time. 
  • Find approved substitutes for absences when necessary. 
  • Promote Before & After School Program services and recruit students to maintain program enrollment.
  • Monitor Before & After School Program facility maintenance and cleanliness.
  • Maintain a continuing program of personal professional development, including active participation in required trainings and meetings to improve program quality and ensure compliance with Iowa Department of Health & Human Services minimum standards. 
  • Actively implement program initiatives and new learning, as required.
  • Have, or be able to obtain, current adult and child CPR and First Aid Certification with AED training within the designated timeline.
  • Assist with special event programming, field trips, and guest speakers.  
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required on a limited basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Working Environment 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.  Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
