About the opportunity:
 
The Project Superintendent reports to the Manager, Facilities & Projects while working collaboratively with the Manager, Building Projects within a modified matrix structure. This role specializes in overseeing healthcare construction projects, ensuring adherence to strict healthcare building codes and standards, with a strong focus on patient safety. Responsibilities include managing all aspects of the project lifecycle—quality control, scheduling, and safety protocols—while maintaining expertise in specialized healthcare facility requirements. Projects may involve new construction, capital improvements, and tenant renovations, with or without consultants, as assigned.
 
What you will do:
 
  • Effectively collaborates, contributes, and prioritizes multi-functional coordination within the internal Facilities and Construction Project Management teams and externally with subcontractors or consultants while managing multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  • Exhibits confidence in self and others, inspires and motivates the team to perform well, and effectively influences the actions of others. Vail Health’s representative at the job site responsible for frequent field supervision, coordination, and completion of the project in a timely and quality manner.
  • Reviews contract documents to ensure alignment with project plans and specifications. Evaluates Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems, infection control measures, and medical equipment designs to ensure they comply with Vail Health’s operational requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Works closely with general contractors and subcontractors to resolve design and constructability conflicts.
  • Reviews, confirms, and approves MEP Requests for Information (RFIs), Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), and submittals to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Manages project quality control inspections, punch list effort and ensures smooth turnover.
  • Manages the Contractors delivery of project as-builts and confirms/accepts that they meet the requirements of the specifications.
  • Oversees Project handoff to Facilities staff to ensure proper turnover and acceptance of MEP systems, including ensuring all equipment is reported as in service and all paperwork is available.
  • Assists and collaborates with the Manager, Building Projects in preparing project schedules, rough order of magnitude (ROM) pricing, scoping, and budget updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintains project management knowledge tools by adhering to standardized departmental processes.
  • Supports the development and management of Methods of Procedure (MOPs) as needed to minimize operational impacts.
  • Assists in developing creative solutions that enhance facility functionality during construction projects, ensuring seamless operations and minimal disruptions.
  • Abides by all Federal, State of Colorado, and Vail Health safety policies and regulations with special focus on infection control and mitigation practices throughout construction projects.
  • Performs after hour and weekend coordination of projects requiring Project oversight and input when required.
  • Role models the principles of a Just Culture and Organizational Values.
  • Must be HIPAA compliant

What you will need:
 
Experience:
  • 5 years of facility engineering/maintenance/construction MEP related experience required.
  • 3 years of project oversight experience required; healthcare setting preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and diagrams required.
  • Knowledge of use of meters and test equipment required.
License(s) and Certification (s):
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s license Current, valid Driver’s License and ability to pass Vail Health’s Motor Vehicle Report Criteria required

  • EPA approved Universal Technician Certification preferred

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay:
