The Merchsant is a transformational project that rises 32 stories into the Downtown skyline. This vertical neighborhood of nearly 700,000 Sqft. will be unlike anything else in the city, bringing the best of the development teams' deep national experience home to Columbus, Ohio. The Hotel is a 206-room, luxury hotel offering an approachable luxury experience amidst a storied and layered design. The space will provide rejuvenation within the vertical neighborhood of The Merchant Building, offering premium services, immediate connection to community interests, and a plethora of thoughtfully curated experiences.
- This leader will oversee the full scope of facility operations for The Merchant Building, ensuring all physical assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, and aesthetics. This role expands beyond traditional engineering responsibilities to include direct oversight of Life Safety, Security, and Custodial Operations across the entire project, including the Office Building, non-hotel public spaces, and shared areas.
- The Facilities Director will provide strategic leadership to the Director of Security, custodial leaders, and the engineering team—ensuring an integrated approach to safety, security, maintenance, and service excellence consistent with Makeready’s standards and guiding principles.
- Requested Tasks:
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable the Engineering, Security, and Custodial teams.
- Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence in service delivery.
- Partner with property and corporate leadership to ensure strategic alignment across all operational areas.
- Ensure proper staffing, training, and professional development within all reporting departments
Requested Capabilities:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in facilities management, engineering, or building operations leadership within hospitality, mixed-use, or commercial real estate.
- Prior experience overseeing multi-departmental functions (engineering, security, custodial, or life safety) strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) and preventive maintenance software.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs as required.
- Must adhere to Makeready and property policies and procedures.
