Job Description: Aquatic Center Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Aquatic Center Coordinator oversees the daily operations, programming, and safety of the school’s aquatic center. This role combines facility management, staff supervision, and program development to ensure the pool serves students, school teams, and the broader community. The Coordinator promotes a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment while upholding high standards of customer service, compliance, and community partnership. This position is under the direct supervision of Superintendent.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the aquatic center, including scheduling, staffing, programming, and facility readiness.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs for students, school teams, and community members (e.g., swim lessons, fitness classes, open swim, and competitive events).
- Ensure compliance with state, local, and district safety regulations, including water quality standards, lifeguard protocols, and emergency procedures.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise aquatic staff, including lifeguards, instructors, and support personnel.
- Coordinate with school athletic programs, physical education departments, and community groups to support practices, competitions, and special events.
- Monitor budget, prepare financial reports, and oversee program fees, memberships, and rentals.
- Maintain accurate records related to attendance, maintenance, incidents, and staff certifications.
- Oversee facility maintenance and coordinate with custodial/maintenance staff for repairs, cleaning(pool area and pool house), and long-term upkeep (abide by all Health Dept. regulations).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students, parents, staff, and community members regarding aquatic center use and policies.
- Promote programs through outreach, communication, and partnerships with schools and community organizations.
Qualifications:
- Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Physical Education, Sports Administration, or related field (preferred).
- Prefer Prior experience managing aquatic programs or facilities (YMCA, Parks & Recreation, or school setting experience preferred).
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Lifeguard certification required; Instructor and Lifeguard Trainer certifications preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by programming and events.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor aquatic environment with regular exposure to humidity, pool chemicals, and varying noise levels.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform rescues as needed.
- Extended periods of standing, walking, and overseeing facility activity.
