This is a Promotional and Open recruitment to establish an eligibility list and fill vacancies. The eligibility list will be used to fill permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list. In a promotional and open recruitment, the promotional list shall take precedence. When the promotional list contains fewer than three eligible and willing employees, certification of additional ranks shall then be made from the open list.

Positions in this classification are full-time 40 hours per week, 12 months.
 
 
The recruitment process will consist of a written exam and an oral technical interview, which is tentatively scheduled during the weeks of December 15 - January 16, 2026. Qualified applicants will be notified by email.

BASIC FUNCTION: 

Under direct supervision of the Director of Student/Support Services Programs, provides semi-professional services to student/support programs. Serves in a staff relationship to other personnel. Assists the professional student/support services and administrative personnel in providing welfare, attendance, and special education services for students in accordance with state laws and District policies and procedures.

Position Duties

Assists with the implementation of laws relating to student services and support programs. E

Makes home visits for purpose of address verifications, and upon referral, to provide assistance in improving school attendance. E

Process truancy petitions through the District student services office. E

Maintains records. E

Assists with appropriate interventions to insure continuing school enrollment for students between ages 6 and 18. E

Process referral petitions for students in alternative educational programs who are habitual truants, irregular in attendance, insubordinate or disorderly. E

Process petitions for students in regular education programs (SART, SARB). E

Recommends referral of parents whose children are in violation of compulsory attendance laws. E

 Prepares for court appearances and coordinates processing SARB cases with District Attorney's office or Adult Court. E

Acts as liaison with community agencies and organizations concerned with children and youth. E

Assists with the implementation of laws covering the employment of minors and with information regarding issuance of appropriate work permits. E

Assists with the provision of guidance services in the area of student/support programs for students and parents at school and in the home. E
 
Process applications for inter-district and intra-district attendance. E

Attends meetings regarding student/support service functions. E

Conducts research pertaining to dropouts, ethnicity, AFDC, and other similar surveys. E

Recommends referral of parents/families to appropriate agencies for services. E

Prepares and process Certified mail for SARB, IEP, and expulsion hearings by US mail or personal service. E

May assist with translations at court hearings, expulsion hearings, and IEPs, 504’s, and Behavior Review Intervention Team (BRIT).
 
Assists in obtaining parents' signatures on IEP and SARB contracts. E

Must demonstrate attendance sufficient to complete the duties of the position as required.
 
Maintain and store  student attendance accounting records. E
 
Assists with staff development in the areas of student/support programs. E

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Applicable Federal and State laws, rules and regulation related to welfare, attendance, and special education services.
School Attendance and Review Team and School Attendance and Review Board procedures.
The relationship between the student/support services functions and the total educational program. 
Data control procedures and data entry operations.
Record-keeping and filing techniques.
Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Customer service skills and proven problem-solving techniques.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Operation of a computer and data entry techniques.
Oral and written communication skills.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
Proper safety procedures.

Other Qualifications

Requires high school graduation and a minimum of three years’ experience working with children and adults in a public/private agency setting, including two years of increasingly responsible clerical experience. 

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have valid California driver's license. Will be required to travel throughout the District, using own vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environment; subject to adverse weather conditions; subject to driving to make home visits and move throughout the District.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Dexterity of hands and fingers; eyesight sufficient to read variety of written material; hearing sufficient to communicate with parents, teachers, administrators, and others within and outside of the District; and physical agility and mental acuity sufficient to operate a vehicle and perform job-related tasks. Lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

HAZARDS:
Driving motor vehicle; working with angry and hostile individuals.
