Description
The Facility Billing Specialist is responsible for managing and processing billing for ambulance transports arranged through contracted facilities such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and dialysis centers. This role ensures accurate claim submission, compliance with payer and Medicare regulations, and timely reimbursement for ambulance services provided.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and submit claims (using CMS-1500 or electronic formats) for ambulance transports billed to facilities.
- Verify facility agreements, payer requirements, and patient eligibility prior to claim submission.
- Ensure medical necessity documentation and signatures are complete and compliant with CMS and payer guidelines.
- Communicate with facility contacts to obtain required trip documentation, patient face sheets, and physician certifications.
- Correct and resubmit rejected or denied claims, following up with facilities as needed.
- Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding facility balances or underpayments.
- Maintain a clear understanding of ambulance billing codes (A0425, A0428, A0429, etc.).
- Assist with preparing monthly billing reports and tracking facility contract compliance.
- Stay current with state and federal ambulance billing regulations and compliance standards.
Position Type: (Onsite) Full-time, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in medical billing.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of billing codes, HCPCS modifiers, and documentation requirements.
- Proficiency with billing software (e.g., ZOLL RescueNet, ESO, or similar).
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify claim discrepancies.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with facility representatives.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations.
- Ability to manage multiple billing accounts and meet strict deadlines.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.
- Occasional lifting of files or boxes up to 15 lbs.
