Internal Redeployment Only - Research and Innovation Transformation Manager – Post Award


This role is to support the development of the Future Research Service programme, including reviewing and overseeing change in the collection, storage, manipulation, analysis and reporting of the post-awards service design, system infrastructure, and processes.  Working with relevant teams in the Research Service, IT, Finance and other departments as necessary, the role will undertake consultation with key stakeholders across the University to design and implement a new service design for university post-awards.

The role will be formally based in the Research Support Division, working across teams leading or collaborating on strategic projects, e.g. with the Post-Awards and Research Systems Teams but will also be part of a group of transformation managers within the strategic and operation division. The role will work in a matrix capacity with a network of research professionals to enhance the provision of grant management support to academic Principal Investigators.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term until 31st July 2027.

Salary: £51,753 - £56,535 per annum (Grade 7)

Job Description

Key Duties

•    Plan and deliver projects that have a University-wide impact, in particular relating to the development of better research and innovation management frameworks, managing the workstream and project teams as needed, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required

•    Review and update the Research Service provision of information (guidance and policy documentation) across all stages of the post-awards lifecycle

•    Undertake cross-institutional consultation and investigation in order to gather the information for the above review

•    Develop and support delivery of a project plan for the service design of post-awards administration and support at the University, including people, system and process workstreams.

•    Working with a project team, specify and implement new approaches, policies, protocols, operating procedures and systems to overcome issues identified in above review

•    Take responsibility for resolving issues independently where they fall within a set role of objectives, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action and ensuring complex and conceptual issues and solutions are understood by the audience

•    Establish relationships with key contacts to ensure role objectives are met, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required

•    Work in close collaboration with the Head of Grants Support, the Head of Strategy and Operations, the Future Research Service Programme Manager (PMO) and the leads of various FRS workstreams and wider Research Service teams to deliver the project 

•    Develop effective partnerships to ensure effective working with Finance.

•    Undergo personal and professional development as appropriate and which will enhance performance
