OhioGuidestone is the state’s leader in community behavioral health care, serving around 26,000 Ohioans each year. We focus on the needs of the whole person by providing telehealth and in-person prevention services, as well as mental health and substance use treatment. In our newly created apprenticeship, you will play the Parent Educator role and will be responsible for providing home visits to clients enrolled in the Help Me Grow Program, focused on child development. This program assists families with their goals to provide support, encouragement, information and resources to promote positive parent-child interaction. As an Apprentice, you will have on-the-job learning, classroom instruction, support and mentorship along the way. At the end of the one-year apprenticeship, you will be credentialed and equipped to explore other career opportunities in the behavioral health field.

 Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate the values and guiding principles of OhioGuidestone every day, performing with the highest standards of excellence, integrity and ethics.
  • Attend all scheduled classes, workshops, and mentorship sessions related to the Help Me Grow and apprenticeship curriculum.
  • Assist in building relationships with individuals and families in the Help Me Grow program.  
  • Support and deliver appropriate health education on trained topics.
  • Learn all systems utilized in the Help Me Grow program.
  • Participate in community events, health fairs, and home visits under supervision.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of client or collateral interaction within Agency defined standards.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and a culture of belonging.
  • Present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.

Ongoing Support and Supervision

Apprentices will receive consistent guidance and support throughout the program, including:

  • Regular one-on-one check-ins with supervisors
  • Field coaching during home visits
  • Constructive, skill-building feedback
  • Access to professional development and learning opportunities

This supportive structure is designed to reinforce learning, build professional confidence, and promote long-term career growth.

Career Pathways

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you may qualify for permanent roles such as:

  • Parent Educator
  • Care Coordinator
  • Youth Care Specialist
  • Community Health Worker
  • Behavioral Health Specialist

Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Prior experience in caregiving, child development, community service, or volunteer work preferred.
  • Bilingual or multilingual (especially Spanish, Arabic, or other relevant languages) preferred.

 Qualifications:

  • Mission driven; strong desire to make an impact.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; able to speak effectively with individuals and/or groups of people.
  • Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment.
  • Flexible; able to workdays, evenings, and/or weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients.
  • Strong organizational skills: able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
  • Ability to provide timely follow-up and act with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
  • Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
  • Must be able to access work locations, offices, and homes as necessary, which may include ascending/descending stairs.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and any other required assessments, such as a physical examination and TB test.
At OhioGuidestone we care about the health and safety of our employees. OhioGuidestone requires applicants to complete a pre-employment screening process upon receipt of an offer of employment. We require and cover the cost of fingerprint background screening, physical, Tuberculosis test, and drug screen after an employment offer is made. Any employment offer is contingent upon receipt of all satisfactory pre-employment screenings.
