OVERVIEW AND ROLE SCOPE OF TEAM AND/OR TASKS

Colorado Mesa University is seeking a visionary and dynamic Program Director to lead our non-traditional Dental Hygiene Program, designed to expand access to education and meet the evolving needs of today’s learners and dental health landscape. This innovative program offers flexible delivery methods (on-line, hybrid, community-based) and aims to attract a diverse student population, including non-traditional and working adult learners who need evening or weekend classes. 

In addition, this individual provides technical medical input regarding curriculum, content, and procedures. This individual works with program faculty and off-campus staff in establishing program guidelines, program policies, class schedules, laboratory schedules, student advising, evaluation and assessment of students. 

Other duties may be assigned as needed by our business.

CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS
Capacity for this seat includes knowledge, skills and emotional intelligence and ability to commit to this seat.

• Ensure the program meets accreditation standards and is compliant with the Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements.
• Teach course load as assigned
• Lead faculty in developing and maintaining the curriculum to ensure it is current and relevant
• Monitor student success rates, evaluate student performance, and address student needs
• Serve as a liaison with institution administration and perform administrative functions
• Maintain at least 5 hours of office hours per week
• Approve and evaluate student admissions criteria and procedures
• Develop rapport with students that is professional and encourages teacher/student communication

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT
• The Program Director must be a dental hygienist or a dentist who is a graduate of a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and possesses a master’s degree. Applicant must have a background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals. 

Dental Hygienist: 
•Current Dental Hygiene license
•Successful completion of the written National Board Dental Hygiene Examination
•Successful completion of a Colorado regional or state clinical board examination

OR

Dentist:
• Current Dental License
• Successful completion of the written National Board Dental Examination
• Successful completion of a Colorado regional or state clinical board examination
• Master’s degree or higher in a related field
• 4000 occupational/industry hours within 5 years.

Related Degree, Credential, and/or Occupational Experience: 4000 occupational/industry hours within 5 years as a Dental Hygienist or Dentist.
