About the Department

Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professionato fill the position of Adaptive Senior Recreation Leader. The Adaptive Senior Recreation Leader will report to and work hand in hand with the Adaptive Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Specialist. 

The primary function of this position is to assist with innovation, planning, promotion, implementation and evaluation of programs, activities and special events to include preparing activities and curriculum, purchasing supplies, and working with contract instructors and vendors. Additional responsibilities include: promoting and publicizing programs; preparing marketing materials and flyers, schedules of events, brochures, newsletters and activity guides. Additionally, the Adaptive Senior Recreation Leader will independently develop, implement and promote programs & events for our Adaptive Recreation Program. The Adaptive Recreation program consists of leisure classes, community outings, Special Olympics and Friday night social events. The Recreation Specialist will also have the following responsibilities: frequently serve as is the manager on duty; be responsible for enforcement of policies and procedures; respond to emergency situations; secure the facility; provide customer service to include fielding questions and resolving conflicts with internal and external customers; answer customer inquiries by phone, in writing and in person; process program registrations; field customer inquiries; collect payments; other duties as assigned. 

This position's schedule will vary as Adaptive Recreation Programs run during the day, evenings, and weekends. Please note this position's schedule will be created by the Recreation Coordinator based on the needs of the programs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Customer service to include fielding Adaptive Recreation program questions and resolving conflicts with internal and external customers.  Answer inquiries by phone, in person and in writing.  Process program registrations and address concerns.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating monthly Adaptive Recreation social night events and other special events.
  • Facilitate weekly Adaptive Recreation Bowling.
  • Plan and implement facility program and events to include preparing activities and curriculum, purchasing supplies, and evaluating programs and events.
  • Develop marketing materials for classes, programs, events and facility information by creating flyers, brochures, social media posts and advertising slides for facility TV's.
  • Maintain Special Olympics coaches trainings and volunteer trainings and make sure they are up-to-date.

Position Duties

The ideal candidate for this position will be passionate about our Adaptive Recreation program and the customer experience. Preferred experience includes one year in planning activities for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and one-year experience in promoting and preparing marketing materials, including flyers, newsletters, brochures, and activity guides. We're looking for a customer service-driven individual to deliver and constantly improve our programs and processes that will ensure an outstanding experience for our community. 
 
This position requires someone who is adept at finding common sense, well-reasoned approaches to difficult problems. Strong management, conflict resolution, and emergency response skills are required as well as communication and interpersonal skills. This person must be able to independently interact, engage and communicate with other staff, parents, participants and other individuals in a positive and professional manner. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 to 3 seasons clerical and customer service experience.
  • 1 to 3 seasons cash handling experience.
  • 1 to 3 seasons marketing experience.
  • Some supervisory experience preferred.
  • CPR and Standard First Aid within 30 days of hire
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
This position is FLSA Non-Exempt - eligible for overtime compensation.
