The Housing Specialist II/III processes eligibility applications, verifies participant status, prepares documents, and ensures compliance with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations. The ideal candidate will understand housing program functions such as eligibility, leasing, re-certifications, portability, rent adjustments, and terminations. Strong analytical, organizational, and data interpretation skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities accurately and in compliance with regulations. Experience with housing programs, especially Project-Based Voucher (PBV) or related HUD programs, is highly preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts assigned activities and transactions.
- Completes assigned work timely and accurately.
- Answers inquiries from participants, owners, applicants and the general public with the highest level of professionalism and excellence in customer service, as with all work assigned.
- Conducts all activities to ensure nondiscrimination.
- Maintains productivity information.
- Determines eligibility for program participation.
- Reviews applications, verifications and other documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness; ensures that required documentation is distributed to correct parties.
- Establishes and maintains individual applicant/participant files and handles all personally identifiable information (PII) in strictest confidence.
- Performs accurate and timely data entry to maintain updated computer files.
- Coordinates activities with Supervisors, Managers, Inspectors, and other coworkers.
- Must have a Housing Choice Voucher Specialist certification.
- Experience in housing programs, particularly Project-Based Voucher (PBV) or Housing Choice Voucher (HCV), is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to manage detailed data, ensure accuracy, and meet deadlines in a high-volume environment.
- Three to four years of experience in an environment requiring extensive public contact and/or customer service, procedures and processes. Accounting, mortgage processing, and direct customer interfacing experience a plus.
- Strong computer skills.
