Job Title: Lead Housekeeper
Department: Environmental Services
Reports to: Maintenance Director or Administrator
Location: Symphony Applewood
Position Summary:
In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Lead Housekeeper plays a critical role in providing superior customer service and housekeeping services to all Residents in the facility. The Lead Housekeeper is responsible for the planning, development and overall operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments which ensures the facility is maintained in a clean, odor free and safe manner.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, directs and supervises the activities of the housekeeping and laundry staff.
- Responsible for the cleaning and sanitizing of residents rooms, areas inside the facility, and outside the facility.
- Ensures the facility is kept cleaned, sanitary, and odor free at all times in compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Responsible for operating the Housekeeping and Laundry Departments within budgetary guidelines and limitations.
- Completes annual performance reviews of all subordinate staff. Provides guidance and education to staff in regard to their performance.
- Provides counseling and disciplinary action to subordinate staff members as needed.
- Responsible for training and educating staff members.
- Assure that established infection control and standard precaution practices are maintained at all times. Follow established safety precautions when preforming tasks and using equipment and supplies.
- Reports all hazardous conditions, damaged equipment and supply issues to the appropriate persons.
- Maintains the comfort, privacy and dignity of Residents and interacts with them in a manner that displays warmth, respect and promotes a caring environment.
- Must answer and respond to call lights promptly and courteously when working in Resident care areas.
- Assist with new admissions, re-admissions and assist with the transfer of Residents to different rooms within the facility.
- Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines at all times and protects confidential information by only providing information on a “need-to-know” basis.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings and in-services as directed.
- Understands Infection Control and follows the Company’s Infection Control guidelines, such as hand washing principles, understanding of isolation and standard precautions, recognizing signs and symptoms of infection, demonstrating and understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste and cross contamination, maintaining personal hygiene, and complying with OSHA standards in the workplace.
- Promotes and Protects Resident Rights by assisting Residents to make informed decisions, treating Residents with dignity and respect, protecting Residents’ personal belongings, reporting suspected abuse or neglect, avoiding the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards, and supporting independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable laws and regulations.

- Perform other tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervises employees in the department and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible by following policies and applicable laws. Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the organization in the performance of these duties.
- Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; labor management, scheduling, planning, assigning and directing work; receiving calls and finding replacements for absent staff; preparing performance evaluations; receiving and resolving employee complaints; monitoring and correcting job performance of employees; and disciplining employees up to and including discharge.
Requirements
Required/Desired Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years’ experience in a housekeeping supervisory or Environmental Services role in a Health Care setting.
- Knowledge of LARA regulations.

Other Special Requirements:
- Tolerate frequent exposure to blood, body tissues, and bodily fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. As well as frequent exposure to laundry chemicals. Frequent exposure to latex and plastic materials used for personal protective equipment.
- Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
