Job Description Summary & Additional Information

The University of Maryland is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as the Project Manager of our NSF-funded NourishNet interdisciplinary team focused on reducing food waste and increasing food security, with the title of Faculty Assistant. This is a unique
opportunity for an individual with a background in food waste reduction and project management to make a real difference in the world. The ideal candidate will have a keen attention to detail and the ability to manage large teams and keep personnel on-task.


Key Responsibilities and Preferences:
 Work closely with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, IT specialists, business entrepreneurs, social scientists, and extension specialists to bring new technologies to market to aid in reducing food waste and increasing food security.
 Help manage personnel and ensure tasks are completed on time and to the highest standards.
 Communicate effectively with all team members, stakeholders, and partners.
 Plan, organize, and manage projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
 Write, edit, and submit monthly and quarterly reports to NSF.
 Prepare weekly agenda and minutes for team meetings.
 Interact with food pantries with testing of apps and tools created by the project.


Qualifications (Required):
 B.S. (or B.A.), M.S. or other advanced degree (i.e., MBA, MPA) is required.
 Previous project management experience, with a keen attention to detail.
 Work/volunteer background in food waste reduction, including food pantries, food rescue
apps, composting or anaerobic digestion of food waste.
 Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team environment.
 Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
 Ability to work regularly in Maryland/DMV area for interviews, in-person meetings, and project management meetings.


Qualifications (Preferred):
 Knowledge of the NSF Convergence or similar I-Corps curricula.
 Working knowledge of project management software (such as BaseCamp, Slack).
 Well-organized with strong writing skills.
