Overview:

GDC IT Solutions is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to work in a hybrid capacity with the DC Office of the Chief Financial Officer in Washington D.C. This position requires candidates to be located within commuting distance of Washington D.C. and offers a collaborative environment focused on maintaining financial accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement in accounting processes.

As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing financial activities to support the District’s overall financial plans, ensuring compliance with GAAP and District policies, assisting with audits, and improving accounting processes and internal controls. This role requires a combination of technical accounting expertise, analytical ability, and leadership skills to ensure accurate reporting and effective financial operations.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist District staff in executing the overall financial plans.
  • Manage the monthly and annual close process to ensure all accounting events are properly recorded in accordance with GAAP and District Policy.

  • Review and verify accounting entries for accuracy prior to release by the Accounting Manager.

  • Support annual financial and other audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and documentation to ensure a clean audit opinion.

  • Develop, update, and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.

  • Evaluate internal accounting controls, identify areas of risk, and recommend improvements to strengthen financial governance.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance.

  • Five (5) years of financial and accounting work experience.

  • Expert knowledge of accounting principles and practices in the areas of Cash and Accounts Receivable.

  • Working knowledge of Grants, Bonds, Retirement Plans, and Unclaimed Property.

  • Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Demonstrated experience with project management.

  • Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced proficiency with MS Teams, MS Outlook, and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Proficiency with Accounting/General Ledger Systems

  • CPA or MBA credential.

  • Leadership experience in financial operations or accounting teams.
